To working in collaboration with the national office, lead in the development of the Health Technical approach and programs of WV South Africa. Special program emphasis will be focus on primary health care including the management and control of TB, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, Maternal and Child Health, immunization, water borne diseases, epidemics and other emerging priority diseases in children. The function would include needs assessments, survey design, data gathering and analyses, prioritization of needs, program design, supervision, monitoring and evaluation, training, resource mobilization, networking with major stakeholders such as grassroots organizations, faith-based organizations, government and UN agencies. It will report to the Advocacy Team Leader.Communicate World Vision's Christian ethos and demonstrate a quality of spiritual life that is an example to others

Areas of Responsibility: 

Unit Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a Health Technical Approach for World Vision South Africa in line with the One Organization, one Operation (O4) initiative of the World Vision International partnership
  • Carry out assessments including qualitative and quantitative surveys prior to designing programs. Working with the technical and management teams to develop a structure of continued program adaptations and redesign as new data are gathered and interpreted.
  • Adapt the emerging models of Channels of Hope for HIV and AIDS, Channels of Hope for Maternal New Born and Child Health, Community Care Coalitions or such networks in communities, Life Skills programs in schools, Health Advocacy, Psychosocial Support to the South African context, and others as they become available with a view to integrate them in the ADPs and emergency response programs.

Program/ Project Management

  • Lead and manage implementation and monitoring of programs including but not limited to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), HIV and AIDS, Physical Education and Sports, Nutrition and Food Security as determinants of the Health Technical Approach at National and ADP levels
  • Participate in the evaluation, design and re-design of all ADPs implementing Health Programs with special attention on the health sector’s contribution to transformational development, HEA and Advocacy
  • Develop adaptations of international standards and protocols for the health technical approach, ensuring that project staff and partners understand these standards.
  • Facilitate the development of a structure for program planning, monitoring, supervision and evaluation of Health Technical Programs. Emphasis will be given to HIS, operations research and sharing of lessons learned.
  • Develop health technical programs or strategies and follow-up implementation of same in the ADPs ensuring reports are produced in time- financial and narratives
  • Develop and establish the monitoring and evaluation systems in collaboration with the Program Quality Team with emphasis and ensuring that Health M/E data is used in the programming cycle.

Health Advocacy

  • Conduct Health Advocacy campaigns,intergrate them into the National Office strategy and ADP Detailed implementation plans and budget and are aligned with those of other like-minded organizations
  • Ensure that key Health moments Nationally are liked to Advocacy messages
  • Produce good/best practice stories, health policy briefs, flyers/posters and submissions for relevant policy change
  • Manage the Child Health Now Campaign with three asks of immunization, exclusive breast feeding, community health workers capacity as well as ensuring that all clinics in the ADP have functional clinic committees
  • Ensure that WVSA plans are in all the District Business Plans where WVSA operates and in the captured in the Annual reports thereof

Capacity Building, networking and resource mobilization

  • Assist in the development of training programs for staff and communities. Every opportunity will be taken advantage of in carrying-out staff development through formal and non-formal methods.
  • Represent the Health Team at relevant meetings within and without the organization. Provide expert technical and strategic advice to the SLT, SMT and ADPs on the Health strategic directions of WVSA
  • Mobilize resources for the Health Technical Programs through proposal writing from the WV Support countries, Institutional Donors and within Corporates in South Africa in collaboration with Marketing and Donor Relations teams
  • Network and partner with government, (Department of Health) national and international agencies to co-ordinate functions, share lessons learned and develop common projects.
  • In consultation with management carry out special short-term assignments.
  • Attend, participate and take an active role in weekly chapel and daily devotional meetings
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have a degree in Nursing with post graduate in Masters in Public Health.
  • Must have at least three years’ experience of managing health or HIV/AIDS programs.
  • Must be able to negotiate ideas within and outside the World Vision partnership, particularly with donor communities.
