The Manager, Special Events plans, manages and executes special events in the assigned field office territory for the Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.  Successful outcomes will be defined in part by dollars raised, teams recruited, sponsors developed, volunteer recruitment and mobilization.  

This position is based in Rockford, IL with travel throughout the assigned territory and reports to the Sr. Manager, Special Events.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Plans, manages and oversees all aspects of special events in assigned field office territory including staff driven fall season Walk to End Alzheimer's (2-3) events.
  • Follows the Walk Events Standards and best practices.
  • Solicits corporate/foundation/organizational sponsorship and gifts in assigned area.
  • Recruits and stewards Longest Day teams.
  • Serves as liaison for Workplace Giving initiatives.
  • Plans, manages and oversees all aspects of Unforgettable Art.  
  • Recruits, trains, and manages volunteers for both committee and non-committee participation, including providing general knowledge of Alzheimer's disease as well as programs and services offered by the Association
    • Provides additional, advanced knowledge and guidance to committee volunteers.
  • Prepares and presents reports of individuals' activities and results and participates in development department/team meetings and other administrative activities in support of the Association.
  • Manages annual revenue and expense budgets in keeping with the fiscal approved budget
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in communications, business, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience in fundraising, sales, or marketing
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1-3 years professional non-profit fundraising, event planning, or sales experience
  • Experience with fundraising software (Convio) a plus
  • Knowledge and understanding of standard fundraising techniques and successful skills making $5000 "asks" to companies and individuals preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to work with a diverse population
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate and work effectively within a team
  • Ability to work independently with little daily supervision
  • Superior relationship-building skills to engage volunteers as well as potential and existing sponsors
  • Excellent time management skills to prioritize and balance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the assigned territory by car
  • Must possess valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance
  • Ability to bend, lift, transport and set up various printed materials (weighing up to 25lbs)
