CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

WORK WEEK: Monday through Friday, weekends/evenings as required
FLSA STATUS: Exempt

OVERVIEW: Flower City Habitat for Humanity is seeking a highly-independent, results-oriented Construction Manager to manage our construction sites, volunteers and team, and support the rapid growth of our neighborhood revitalization program. The Neighborhood Revitalization program aims to face housing challenges in a holistic way by engaging community members, improving neighborhood conditions, and performing house repairs.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The role of Flower City Habitat for Humanity (FCHH) Construction Manager (CM) is to oversee the construction planning, scheduling, and management of new and rehabilitated homes. This includes but is not limited to field staff, volunteer, subcontractor, supplier oversight as well as materials acquisition and control. The CM is also responsible for overseeing the FCHH cabinet shop and major FCHH facility/fleet maintenance, repairs and improvements. The CM reports to FCHH’s CEO.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Construction Planning and Scheduling
    • Works with the site supervisors (and other staff members) to plan construction schedule for the year. Works closely with the CEO to ensure that timelines for grants are met.
    • Establishes the house plan, budget, and schedule for each house project.
    • Ensures all permitting requirements are met.
    • Prepares monthly reports for the Construction Committee.
    • Stays current in building industry trends/accreditations.
  • Construction Site Management
    • Manages all field staff and the construction sites.
    • Working with field staff, the CM will ensure that the construction sites are safe.
  • Worksite Safety
    • Creates/maintains a safety culture through programs and compliance for all field staff and volunteers.
  • Inventory Control
    • Creates, measures and enhances FCHH construction materials control system.
  • Procurement
    • Purchases materials while maintaining efficiency.
    • Arranges timely deliveries of materials.
  • Interpersonal/Communication/Leadership
    • Communicates key objectives, schedules, donor and volunteer needs between the field staff and the office staff.
    • Communicates accurately and in a timely any problems, delays, or impediments from the field staff to the office staff.
  • Volunteer & Homebuyer Training
    • Ensures that the field staff begin each day with volunteer sign-up, devotion, and then clearly verbalized instructions for the day’s activities.
    • Develops lasting relationships with construction volunteers, developing them into skilled, regular contributors.
  • Work Site Security
    • Employs anti-theft measures for all equipment and materials.
  • Events
    • Manages field staff during site events.
    • Participates in meetings and maintains communications with field staff leading up to events to ensure success.
    • Participates in fundraising events as requested (often in the evening or on weekends).
    • Formally speaks to event attendees, or to media as requested.
  • Professional Affiliations
    • Is active with the Rochester Homebuilder’s Association.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in the residential construction field, 6+ years preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of construction materials, methods and safety protocols.
  • Skill in the art of teaching all phases of the construction trade to untrained volunteers
  • A valid CA Class C Driver’s License and able to drive large trucks
  • Ability to bend, squat, climb, and lift up to 40 pounds frequently, with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Must complete lead abatement course and OSHA safety training within first year of employment
  • Basic computer skills; experience in Microsoft Project a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and solve complex problems
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience in a non-profit construction environment
  • Familiarity with Habitat for Humanity’s mission and model
  • CPR/First aid training
  • At least 10 hours of OSHA training
COMPENSATION:
Salary is commensurate with experience. This full-time position offers health and dental insurance, twenty paid days off, retirement, and other benefits.
