The Project Director will provide leadership for a five - year tobacco control grant, supervising the project staff and managing the grant. They will lead the team that ensures our Hispanic/Latino constituents and their stories will have a voice and a place in the tobacco control advocacy, public policy processes, and in ACS CAN’s advocacy work. They will staff an advisory board that assures culturally competent strategies and tactics are employed to build community capacity to address tobacco- related problems.
Areas of Responsibility:
- The role will ensure implementation of the 5-year California Tobacco Control Program (CTCP) funded scope of work, contract, budget, intervention and evaluation to ensure that work plans are executed, evaluation is high quality, and deliverables and reporting are made on a timely basis.
- They will lead planning and implementation of comprehensive and strategic grassroots advocacy campaigns to develop community capacity and demonstrate constituent support for local tobacco control related policy initiatives that will reduce health disparities.The role will supervise project staff and sub contracts, and Support Advisory Board volunteer development and community engagement.
- They will act as a liaison between the Hispanic/Latino community members, leaders, and ACS and ACS CAN mission, staff and volunteers.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree-required (Public Health or Public Administration suggested)
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of five years of relevant work experience with at least one year of health promotion, policy campaigns, or community organizing experience, and at least one year of supervisor and grant management experience
SKILLS:
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency and experience working with Hispanic/Latino community in a culturally competent manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and communities. Effective verbal and interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication with community members and community groups.
- Strong writing and computer skills to facilitate effective reporting for grant requirements. Ability to complete work in a timely and efficient manner and ensure work is accurate.
- Ability to work independently with minimum direction as well as lead a high functioning team. Demonstrated ability to work on fast-paced, time-sensitive matters with internal and external constituents.
SPECIALIZED TRAINING OR KNOWLEDGE:
- This position will need to be experienced in supervision and grant management. They should also have at least one year of health promotion, policy campaigns, or community organizing experience.
- Familiarity with MS Software, competency with Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to reach, bend, climb, stoop and lift and carry up to 30 lbs. of reports, supplies or other materials for routine performance of essential functions
- Valid California driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation to travel between sites for meetings and/or to gather information for reporting purposes.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends and travel. Able to attend out of town meetings or conferences which could require overnight travel.
