The Ridgewood YMCA seeks an energetic, strategic thinker, fundraiser, and marketer as our Vice President for Development and Marketing.

In this newly created role, the VP, Development and Marketing will report directly to the CEO and serve as the key business partner for community, philanthropic and organizational development, communications, strategic planning, and marketing. This position develops strategies, community engagement and philanthropic solicitation plans in concert with volunteers and YMCA leadership, and participates in the solicitation process as appropriate. The VP will strategically focus on activities related to sustainability and advancement of development and marketing throughout the association. The VP will directly manage a portfolio of top donors and prospects, as well as create and manage Association strategy and execution of the annual campaign and the Y’s largest annual fundraisers in alignment with community needs. The VP in partnership with the CEO and board members, strategically plans and directs all aspects of the Y’s financial development, capital development initiatives, marketing and communications, public relations, donor stewardship, grant research, and ensures access, equity and inclusion for all to reach their fullest potential with dignity in a welcoming and safe environment. This position is directly responsible for the planning, implementation, management and oversight of all marketing, public relations, fundraising, donor relations and organizational development activities on behalf of The Ridgewood YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Working with development staff and senior leadership, project, track and meet
  • fundraising goals annually.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to ensure the association implements key tactics that strengthen organizational capacity to deliver the Y’s cause.
  • Create annual business plan to meet philanthropic financial goals. Analyze results and adjust plans accordingly.
  • Manage team of development & marketing staff.
  • Support the expansion of the Y and help to develop marketing efforts to boards, past Y members, and friends.

Donor Management:

  • Serve as prospect manager for major donor prospects (including prospect research and strategy development).
  • Work closely with CEO and Development Director to define new initiatives designed to increase the donor base such as the President’s Roundtable, YMCA Champion, and new initiatives to be identified.
  • Collaborate with CEO, and Development staff on identification, cultivation, and stewardship opportunities for major gift donors and prospects.
  • Work with senior leaders within the Ridgewood YMCA, including executive director at Camp Bernie branch, in a concerted effort to develop major gift prospects, maximizing efficiency and productivity.
  • Participate in solicitations as appropriate.
  • Build and sustain authentic, inclusive and impactful relationships across key community stakeholders, with an eye towards board and philanthropic development.
  • Compose special proposals and letters to major gifts donors as appropriate.
  • Research prospects and donors as needed.

Volunteer and Senior Management Staffing:

  • Create & Staff Development Committee, including strategy sessions with Chair, development of Committee agenda, production of materials, and staff follow-up from meetings to drive next steps.
  • Partner with HR lead and staff team to align HR and leadership development policies, procedures and practices with the Ridgewood Ys commitment to DIG and being a community bridge builder serving all.
  • Staff Special Event Committee, including working with volunteers and appropriate staff on branding of signature events, renewing and securing lead sponsors, and oversight of all collateral materials.
  • Oversee implementation of donor strategies with key volunteers and YMCA staff.
  • Work with CEO, Development director and Camp Bernie ED to set activity and revenue goals for major gifts and annual fund efforts and monitor progress toward these goals.
  • Develop briefings, letters, proposals and related materials for key volunteers and CEO as it relates to prospects and donors.
  • Perform special tasks, duties, and projects as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Eight to ten years of fundraising experience. Proven fundraiser with campaign, major gifts, and annual fundraising experience.
  • Five plus years of supervisory experience, familiarity with legal, human resources, leadership and organizational development strategies, policies and approaches.
  • Team-oriented leader with strong management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational and analytical skills; project management skills. Experience with Board volunteer management and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Exemplary conflict mediation, community development and facilitation skills across diverse and complex community and societal settings.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; flexibility and sense of humor.
  • Proficient in Raiser’s Edge and Microsoft Office.
  • Commitment to the YMCA mission and cause.
  • Evening and weekend work is expected and may be required.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00
