The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is "To eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health."
Under the direction of the Regional Director and the Family Care Associate (Respite), the Program Specialist helps administer the Respite Voucher Program to eligible families. As Specialist to the respite coordinator, this position is responsible for timely and accurate record-keeping, data entry and reporting. This position is based in the Reno, Nevada office. This position is grant funded.
This position is part-time, 24 hours per week, located in the Reno, Nevada office, and reports to Niki Rubarth, Regional Director.
Respite Program
- Working with the Family Care Associate, administer Respite Voucher Program including monthly contact with respite recipients
- Screen applicants for respite need and eligibility
- Provide care coordination and assist clients in accessing respite resources
- Maintain an excel spreadsheet of respite clients to provide monthly/quarterly information to the Regional Director for grant reports
- Enter detailed information about each client served into the Personify database
- Ensure up-to-date accurate files on each respite grantee
- Conduct client evaluation of Respite Voucher Program by new grantees
- Maintain current information on grant eligibility and application procedures
- Evaluate and document results of respite utilization
Rural Outreach
- Update and maintain details of rural contacts and resources
- Provide support to the Rural Outreach specialist
Education
- Identify locations, schedule, set up and follow up for Education events/classes
- Provide support for Physician Outreach and Early Stage engagement activities
Public Policy
- Assist in preparation and facilitation of Dementia Friendly Community Action Group meetings, including preparation of meeting minutes
- Provide support for public policy/advocacy events as needed
Development
- Provide administrative support as needed for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Longest Day and other Special Events activities
- Experience/interest in working with older adults, caregivers and Alzheimer’s care
- Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills
- Solid excel skills and experience with maintaining electronic client data
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work as a team player
- Willingness to gain familiarity with community services, dementia care services, caregiving issues, difficult behaviors, and best practices in dementia care
- Ability to respond to emotional concerns of family members
- Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion
- Efficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Power Point
