This is two-year, grant-funded position for the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, and reports to the Chief Program Officer. The Dementia Care Director is responsible for increasing education and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) throughout the state of Nevada, working in conjunction with the State’s Department of Health and Human Service’s community partnership grant. This position provides overall leadership to the two-year project, and will supervise the Dementia Care Coordinator.

The Dementia Care Director position is located in Reno, Nevada but the Las Vegas, Nevada office location may be considered.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Increase education and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease through education programs in the community, delivering evidenced-informed and Alzheimer’s Association Common Educational programs
  • Create and implement a public awareness campaign for both print and digital to increase awareness of ADRD, working with the Chapter communications team and Nevada Public Health
  • Educate the community on the benefits of early detection and timely diagnosis
  • Work directly with the Public Health department to improve their dementia education and awareness, integrating ADRD into existing Public Health education and programs
  • Build awareness throughout Nevada to both constituents and professionals
  • Provide overall leadership and supervision to staff on the grant, managing all data and reports

PUBLIC HEALTH

  • Represent the Division of Public and Behavioral Health and Alzheimer’s Association on various community-based stakeholder committees, as invited
  • Build a statewide ADRD public health infrastructure that includes a State sustainability plan (future funding)
  • Enhance data collection but coordinating Nevada’s participation in Centers for Disease Control Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey on subjective cognitive decline and caregiver burden
  • Provide overall leadership and supervision to staff on the grant, managing all data and reports
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in public health, education, policy or similar experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5 years’ experience in education, community outreach, community mobilization or organizational capacity building projects/initiatives
  • Experience in state policy preferred
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Experiencing supervising and managing staff
  • Demonstrated history of health education, strong public speaking skills and an understanding of adult learning principles
  • Ability to work independently and only under general supervision.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and competing demands seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, external partners and donors
