Paid Leave for the U.S. (PL+US) is hiring a Development Director (DD) to raise essential funds to support our groundbreaking work to win national high quality paid family and medical leave policy by 2022.

Location
This is a full time position that can be based anywhere in the U.S. with a major airport that has direct flights to San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and New York City.
About you
The Development Director (DD) is an experienced and dynamic development professional who will create and lead PL+US’ annual development plan alongside the Executive Director. The DD is joining PL+US at an exciting inflection point and will play a critical role not only in raising funds for the organization, but also in building the fundraising engine and systems to fuel our campaign en route to winning landmark legislation that will change the lives of millions of people.
The DD is a proactive, strategic, and detail-oriented fundraiser who is ready to leverage their creativity to take our individual and institutional fundraising to the next level. They are equally adept at cultivating powerful donor relationships and developing streamlined donor management systems that will allow us to scope, pursue, and secure donations from a range of supporters at a time of unprecedented opportunity. This is a perfect role for an individual who has learned the ropes and is ready to spread their wings by building out and managing a first-class development shop with a team that’s in it to win.
The DD will report to the Chief Operating Officer and serve as a key thought partner to the Executive Director, PL+US’ lead fundraiser. They will manage a full-time Development and Communicates Associate and a part-time Development Associate.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and lead execution of PL+US’ annual development plan, in partnership with the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer
- Support Executive Director to identify, cultivate, pitch, and steward donors, including drafting memos, grants, donor correspondence and pitch presentations
- Manage and grow a portfolio of existing and prospective donor relationships, including institutional and individual donors with the potential for five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts.
- Manage the development database and donor tracking systems, including grant reporting and renewal timelines
- Help manage all fundraising events and meetings, including maintaining the development calendar of events
- Develop and manage PL+US’ donor communication and engagement strategy
- Coordinate with finance, digital and partnerships teams to support day-to-day activity
- Support board management, including staffing the development committee and working with the Executive Director to clearly communicate and implement our annual development plans (for c3 and c4 boards)
- Provide high quality supervision and coaching to Development and Communications Associate and Development Associate
You are a strong candidate if you have:
- 5-10 years of nonprofit fundraising experience with progressive responsibility.
- Proven track record of fundraising success across a diverse range of sources, including but not limited to institutions, major donors and low dollar grassroot supporters.
- Experience building the systems and processes to plan, track, manage, and forecast our fundraising.
- Track record of building pipelines, not just managing existing pipelines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
- Passionate about winning paid family and medical leave for everyone in the U.S.
- A “high impact, low ego” approach - no job is too small if it helps us win
- A people person of high integrity who loves to build long-term, meaningful relationships
- Highly organized with careful attention to detail
- Experience in a startup atmosphere, or a high degree of comfort with a fast pace and frequent pivots
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex environment.
Bonus points if you also have:
- Prior experience with EveryAction, Salesforce, or other fundraising database preferred.
- Experience working with digital teams to successfully manage fundraising campaigns, and engaging a community of motivated supporters.
- Experience in connected c3/c4 organizations
- Proven experience coordinating and executing large scale events
Salary
Salary range for this role is $76,500-100,000 annually, and will be adjusted for seniority, experience and cost of living of your location.
