Organize, plan, staff, and direct the operation of revenue generation, program activities, mass market events, and an Advisory Board in the Coachella Valley territory of the Alzheimer's Association CA Southland Chapter. Monitor and evaluate program and development activities to ensure best practices are utilized and strategic plans are fully executed in the local community to achieve care/support and revenue goals. Provide leadership, supervision, and mentoring to the Coachella Valley staff and volunteer leadership. Manage all office operations, including oversight of financials and budgetary planning/implementation. Ensure National policies are followed in a timely fashion.
- Develop and implement agreed-upon mutual objectives and goals with the CA Southland Executive Director (ED) in order to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of local program/service delivery, mass market and other special events, revenue generation, communication's/marketing, advocacy/public policy, and community mobilization activities in the Coachella Valley area. Establish and maintain a strong positive presence in the community which is instrumental to achieving the aforementioned goals.
- Act as the lead staff person to the Coachella Valley's volunteer leadership with a focus on area priorities; partner with current volunteers to ensure successful programs and events; identify, recruit and cultivate new volunteers to participate and lead support groups, educational programs, as well as the Walk to End Alzheimer's and The Longest Day.
- In concert with the CA Southland ED, Walk Director and local event staff, ensure the effective planning and implementation of key fundraising events, to include the Walk to End Alzheimer's, The Longest Day, and other chapter events held throughout the year. Monitor and evaluate income performance through review of monthly revenue and expense reports, direct marketing reports, and other management tools as developed locally and by the national organization.
- Partner with the chapter ED and the chapter's Major Gifts leader to identify, cultivate, and steward local current and prospective major gifts donors; strongly collaborate with the ED and Major Gifts leader to develop an annual fundraising plan with an identified list of donors, corporations and foundations to cultivate, meet face-to-face together, steward, and solicit.
- In concert with chapter and the National Accounting Department, prepare and manage the annual income and expense budget for the Coachella Valley office. Monitor monthly financial reports and review with ED to ensure fiscal management.
- Manage and supervise local staff. Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and providing appropriate staff training and counseling. Promote an environment of transparency, inclusion and teamwork. Importantly, work in partnership with the ED and senior leadership team to ensure the success of the local office and overall chapter.
- In concert with the local program staff and CA Southland Program Director, plan and deliver core programs/services to ensure strategic impact of the Association's mission. This includes: offering valuable educational programs to the community, providing oversight and assistance to support groups and facilitators, ensuring care consultations are provided, maintaining relationships with associated organizations throughout the community (i.e. social service agencies, long-term care facilities), and reviewing quarterly metrics reports from National.
- Collaborate with the CA Southland's Director of Advocacy on the chapter's activities in public policy and advocacy on state issues related to California; coordinate with the Director and National on Federal public policy issues.
- Develop and build a local Advisory Board to support the Alzheimer's Association's mission in the Coachella Valley, as well as partner with the Regional Director and staff to achieve local program, event, and revenue goals.
- Participate in the strategically-aligned Nationwide FY'15 - '17 Strategic Plan, as well as future Alzheimer's Association National strategic plans; develop a Coachella Valley written Strategic Implementation Plan to highlight local goals and activities which are in concert with the National plan.
- Ensure compliance of all Association policies, procedures, standards and applicable regulatory requirements; provide evaluation to ensure area systems and procedures are sound and effective; execute organizational policy decisions; serve as the lead for area contracts.
- Attend in person or via conference call the chapter's monthly all-staff meeting and participate in its senior leadership team meeting held on a monthly basis; attend National meetings such as the annual Leadership Summit.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- 5-7 years related experience in nonprofit management, volunteer engagement, fundraising, program implementation, and community engagement.
- 5+ years experience in successful management and staff supervision in a leadership role.
- 3+ years experience managing and mentoring staff in volunteer management.
Knowledge
- Voluntary health agency administration including program management, community organization, fundraising and marketing.
- Basic community mobilization principles, practices and techniques.
- Fundamentals of management, budget development, leadership and human relations.
- Principles, practices/techniques of interviewing, supervising, training and appraising staff.
- Group processes/dynamics.
Skills
- Demonstrated experience, skills or aptitude in program delivery, fundraising and marketing/communications.
- Effective oral communications including conducting presentations to large and small groups.
- Effective written communications, including business writing, clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations and other narrative pieces.
- PC and computer equipment including word processing, accounting, database management, spreadsheets and software applications.
Abilities
- Lead, guide and inspire staff and volunteers to achieve goals and objectives; demonstrate and promote open communications, transparency and teamwork.
- Participate in meetings, work in a team environment and interact with all levels of association staff, volunteers and the public.
- Willingness to travel throughout the assigned chapter territory and occasionally to national meetings.
- Travel overnight or work evenings/weekends when necessary.
- Maintain a current driver's license, drive a car and provide reliable transportation.
- Lift up to 40 lbs. and transport materials and other supplies to and from meetings.
