If there's a safer way, we'll find it.  Job-Site Safety Institute (JSI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conducting safety research for residential and commercial job-sites. We serve as a research center where educational institutions and industry leaders collaborate and exchange ideas to increase awareness of the inherent dangers of a construction site. The research conducted through JSI grants will produce studies that guide safety practices, set new standards, and influence worker behavior on job-sites.

The Opportunity

JSI is seeking an Executive Director (ED) to lead and oversee the organization's strategic plan, programs and administration. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will have essential duties, including demonstrated experience in grant writing, marketing, constituent engagement (including individuals, foundations, universities, industry, and governmental partners), and fundraising. This role will be based on the east coast, traveling for in-person meetings and events. The WORK of the JSI Executive Director

Leadership and Management:

  • Provides executive leadership under the direction of the Board of Directors while providing support in designing organizational strategies supporting the mission, vision, and goals for JSI.
  • Ensure ongoing program excellence, including in-depth program evaluation (prospective grants and existing), consistent financial analysis and reporting, external communications, and events.
  • Assure compliance with the articles of incorporation, by-laws, and conflict of interest policies; assuring JSI’s continued nonprofit status.

 

Financial Performance, Viability, and Fundraising

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of JSI, including development and monitoring of an annual budget, monitoring grant financial progress, supporting Board fundraising efforts, and working with financial partners to report status at Board meetings or as requested.
  • Responsible for maintaining IRS 990 reporting, as required and in good standing.
  • JSI funding is primarily provided by Builders Mutual Insurance Company and other industry partners. Maintaining a positive and sustained relationship with all financial partners is paramount.

 

Communication

  • Responsible for communicating effectively, timely, and accurately with the Board all necessary information required to function correctly and make informed decisions.
  • Work with marketing partners to communicate JSI's mission, publicize grant results, emphasize successes with an annual impact report and serve as JSI's primary spokesperson to the organization's constituents, the media, and the general public.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations that might both further and benefit from the mission of JSI, i.e., NAHB, NCHBA, National State Homebuilder Associations, Local Homebuilder Associations, Hispanic Contractor Associations, and National Safety Council, and others with industry interest.

Program Oversight

  • Develop and oversee processes that create strong grant-related opportunities that support JSI's mission and vision.
  • Oversee the proper placement of Grant Restriction Agreements for each applicable grantee.
  • Ensure robust internal control, fiscal responsibility, accountability, transparency, efficient, accurate financial operations and practices, and accurate program evaluations that provide measurable impact and outcomes and consistency with the JSI target audience.
Skills/Experience: 

The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to the Job-Site Safety Institute’s mission. Additional qualifications include:

  • A proven track record of success in leadership positions overseeing a nonprofit organization or related field operations with an unwavering personal code of ethics, integrity, diversity, and trust. 
  • Experience working with an active board of directors to provide ongoing communication, engagement, and support.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in fundraising from foundations, corporations, government, and individuals.
  • Ability to maintain solid relationships with donors, grantees, grantors, and the community. 
  • Unwavering commitment to executing quality programs, within JSI, for our partners and constituents.
  • Strong marketing and public relations experience to engage with various stakeholders and environments with highly advanced communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit with an adaptable and innovative approach to developing partnerships while possessing a passion for the mission, a positive attitude, and a driven and self-directed individual.
  • Continues to educate on industry issues and volunteers for the industry and civic organizations.
  • Ability to create relationships with the industry that lead to grant opportunities and support and the willingness to travel when needed. 
  • Proficient in the use and knowledge of MS Office software 
  • Experience in construction job-site safety protocols and OSHA rules preferred.
