Job Title: Director of Finance
Work Location: The Marquam Building in downtown Portland, close to PSU. The office building is currently undergoing construction and the work location is expected to vary until construction is complete in August.

Starting Salary: $72,322-$82,956
Work Schedule:Typically Monday through Friday; some evening and weekend work is required

Pathfinders of Oregon is a 501 (c) (3) social service agency founded in 1993 with a mission to provide justice-impacted individuals and families the tools and support they need to be part of safe and thriving communities. Pathfinders of Oregon provides cognitive-behavioral programs, parenting programs, education and support services for pro-social living to adults in the Oregon prison system and to children and families in the community.
Position Summary
We are looking to find a culturally responsive and collaborative strategic thinker to fill the open position of the Director of Finance. The Director of Finance plays an integral role in ensuring Pathfinders of Oregon programs are fully supported to deliver high quality prevention and intervention services to adults and children in justice-involved families. The Director of Finance provides supervision and management to all aspects of organizational finance and ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions. This position oversees accounting functions to ensure GAAP compliance, proper internal controls, and that financial statements are produced timely and accurately. This is a supervisory role with responsibility for the hiring, performance management, and evaluation of those in the Finance Department. The Director of Finance supports process improvement, best practice implementation, and project management. The Director serves as a member of the executive management team and collaborates with members of the Corrections Division, Community Division, and other agency members in an effort to realize Pathfinders’ strategic plan.

Financial and Cash flow Management
- Oversee all departmental functions, including A/R and A/P, general invoicing and dues billing, collections, banking, cash reconciliations, and cash management.
- Ensure proper internal financial and operational policies and controls are in place and implemented.
- Maintain documents and ensure timely compliance with all appropriate reporting requirements for payroll, personnel, property, and tax returns and filings.
- Timely preparation of monthly and annual financial reports.
- Prepare annual filings as needed and liaise with retained CPA for annual audit. Work with auditors in a timely manner to provide complete information for all audits.
- Forecast cash flow requirements and initiate intra-bank transfers to meet cash needs.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for all Balance Sheet accounts
- Oversee and verify all payroll functions and processing.
- Ensure compliance and proper reporting of investments, pension and 401(k) plans.
Budget, Financial Forecast and Reporting
- Prepare timely regular reports on budget performance and develop metrics for both the board and staff.
- Present monthly reports to board, finance committee, and leadership team.
- Prepare and maintain financial forecasts and regularly scheduled financial reports.
- Meet with program directors as necessary to ensure everyone has a clear understanding of their financial goals, budgets, and available financial resources.
- Prepare and maintain Annual budget of the organization (updated twice a year) in conjunction with department Directors and ED.
- Prepare and maintain Annual budget of variance.
- Prepare and maintain Cash on Hand Report.
- Prepare and maintain ad hoc reports as needed.
Staff Support, Training, and Supervision
- Supervise with a culturally-responsive and trauma-informed mindset.
- Lead departmental recruiting efforts.
- Support professional development efforts.
- Conduct employee performance evaluations.
- Administer corrective action when necessary.
- Provide completed personnel documentation in a timely manner.
- Review and approve timesheets to assure accuracy.
- Work with the Training Department to ensure training, coaching, and support to staff.
- Participate in agency initiatives and projects that promote racial equity and trauma-informed care.
Other Duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
• Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a business, financial or related field with 5+ years of managing finances and producing financials in a nonprofit organization
• Broad knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, including knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding non-profit accounting
• Experience with full cycle accounting through month end close, financial statements, audit, budget, and payroll
• Four or more years’ experience supervising a diverse team
• Superior organizational and time management skills with a successful track record of setting priorities and multitasking in a fast-moving environment
• Excellent skills using Microsoft Excel and accounting software, preferably Financial Edge
• Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills with a focus on listening, collaboration, creativity, and responsibility
• A demonstrated personal and professional commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
• Demonstrated ability to appropriately manage highly confidential information
• Must pass a criminal history background check (a criminal record is not automatically disqualifying), employment verification, and drug screen (which includes testing for marijuana)
Valued Education and Experience
• 10 or more years of experience in managing finances and producing financials in a nonprofit organization.
• CPA
• Experience with Financial Edge Software
• Experience with Paylocity
• Experience working with justice-involved populations
• Experience providing organizational leadership as part of a senior management team
• Experience working with grants and contracts
