The Wellness Director leads the Plano YMCA strategy for Health and Wellness programming which includes Personal Training and Group Exercise. The person in this position facilitates the improvement of the member experience based on member survey data as well as information from the branch leadership staff. The Wellness Director seeks to improve the achievement of personal wellness goals expressed by members and partners with branch staff to improve member results.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • The Wellness Director will increase member engagement and retention, personal training sales, group exercise participation and have a positive effect of member experience.
  • This position is also responsible for the development of the Plano Family YMCA strategy for personal training and group exercise.
  • They will work closely with the Vice President of Operations for the Plano YMCA, Senior Program Director, and the Membership Director to maximize member engagement and assist members to reach their health and fitness goals. 
  • The Wellness Director will oversee 2 full time staff and 10 part time staff as well as indirect supervision of 30 part time staff.  
  • The person in this role will utilize data based on member feedback and make improvements to the Plano YMCA approach to personal training and wellness. 
  • They will ensure members receive premiere service by monitoring and delivering health and wellness initiatives that meet the Y’s policies, procedures, and best practices. In addition, they will use data to help analyze personal trainer effectiveness and branch effectiveness in helping members and clients achieve their health and wellness goals.
  • This position is responsible for monitoring the wellness center environment to ensure that the Plano YMCA is a welcoming place for current and potential members as well as health seekers. Cleanliness of the fitness center and building is top priority.
  • This person will be a role model for developing relationships, interacting effectively with members, and different levels of staff.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3+ years related fitness industry experience.
  • Requires advanced fitness skills including AFAA, ACE, certifications or college level coursework in fitness related degree.
  • Nationally recognized certification in specialty area(s) such as YMCA Group Exercise Certification, Indoor Cycling, Zumba, etc. also preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in attracting and retaining members through relationship building and effective marketing strategies.
  • Must have a keen business sense and understand the dynamics of human behavior change.
  • The ideal candidate will have leadership and management experience
  • Must be familiar with current fitness trends.
  • Must be able to lead a group of exceptional Personal Trainers and take them to the next level of accomplishment.
  • Experience in the business of personal training is necessary.
  • The candidate must be able to teach, demonstrate and evaluate personal training sessions, personal train themselves, and instruct their staff.
  • Must have good presentation skills and be comfortable speaking in front of groups.

Required Certifications

  • Requires advanced fitness skills including AFAA, ACE, certifications or college level coursework in fitness related degree.
  • Nationally recognized certification in specialty area(s) such as YMCA Group Exercise Certification, Indoor Cycling, Zumba, etc. also preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary Range: $36,197.60 to $43,500.00 if annualized
