The Volunteer Engagement Specialist II is a key contributor to the mission by prioritizing volunteer engagement initiatives and delivering high-value tools, training and resources for volunteer managers and volunteers. The Volunteer Engagement Specialist partners with chapter staff to ensure that chapters are well-positioned to identify, recruit, train, engage and recognize volunteers who impact the mission at a local level. In addition to their essential focus on volunteerism, this individual also provides support for other members of the mission advancement team.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Onboards new volunteer management staff at chapters across the country through the sharing of resources and networking calls.
  • Creates key volunteer training resources to improve wish quality throughout the organization such as cultural awareness, managing difficult conversations, getting to the heart of a child’s wish, etc.
  • Develops essential volunteer resources to enhance chapter staff and volunteer’s ability to grant quality wishes, raise revenue and spread the Make-A-Wish mission.
  • Facilitates bi-monthly volunteer manager category calls including development of meeting topics and post-call engagement follow-up.
  • Develops and implement resources in support of National Volunteer Week at both the national and chapter level.
  • Maintains and updates, when necessary, volunteer engagement and volunteer courses/trainings posted on DailyWISH and Make-A-Wish University.
  • Builds positive relationships with chapter and national colleagues to advance volunteer engagement projects, while providing the highest level of support and customer service.
  • Facilitates national post-wish survey to ensure ongoing high-quality wishes across the enterprise.
  • Oversees Mission Advancement team expenses and tracks against annual team budget.
  • Develops and maintains systems to track projects in process by department members, as well as projects planned for the future to provide team transparency into ongoing work.
  • Responds to general public inquiries regarding Make-A-Wish wish-granting processes and procedures.
  • Performs other job duties, as assigned.
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and follow-through, with a strong ‘can-do’ attitude and customer service focus, demonstrating the ability to work with a variety of internal/external stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated consultation, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple projects and deadline pressures.
  • Self-motivated, highly adaptable to change, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • 3 years of experience working in the non-profit industry, volunteer engagement or customer service field preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Smartsheet and database management required.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations is helpful.
