The Senior Editorial Manager is a key contributor to the mission by leading the strategy and the delivery of writing, editorial and storytelling services for the organization. The Senior Editorial Manager in Creative Services directs communications across multiple platforms to ensure brand equity and alignment.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Leads the writing, editing, proofreading for the National Office and works with others across the entire organization to ensure clear, accurate, strategic and compelling communications.
  • Oversees the storytelling needs of the organization through managing the development of processes, guidelines, and execution of storytelling strategies.
  • Oversees the content production and messaging for editorial team.
  • Coordinates, reviews and updates all content for the various communication channels, and ensures the brand messaging is maintained throughout the organization.
  • Collaboratively leads the writing and/or editing of national-level marketing and branding materials to ensure quality and consistency of strategic messaging, including all content for wish.org and all nationally-distributed materials.
  • Proactively collaborates with members of the Brand & Marketing, Development and Corporate Alliances teams to create synergy within all campaigns.
  • Guides the day-to-day content selection and display for wish.org, ensuring a robust, diverse and thought-provoking display of interesting, engaging content that strategically drives visitors to donate.
  • Manages the coordination, content and edits for bi-annual Wishmaker publication.
  • Leads the editorial production process to ensure editorial materials receive the appropriate approvals for content, medical, statistical and policy accuracy.
  • Follows the Brand Advancement workflow process including use of project management tool for all projects.
  • Oversees the work of freelance writers guaranteeing clarity, professionalism, high quality and consistent voice and style in all Make-A-Wish materials.
  • Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Proven leadership in building and inspiring a creative editorial and storytelling team.
  • Demonstrates strong written communication skills, with experience leading in a professional environment, including proofreading and editing.
  • Experienced storytelling strategist, with demonstrated strength in building a process around the finding, gathering, and telling of brand-building stories.
  • Possesses strong written, verbal communication and collaborative interpersonal skills.
  • Engages effectively and collaboratively with professionals at all levels of the organization to build a cohesive editorial strategy.
  • Organizes team’s work, prioritize and delegate to meet deadlines and make timely decisions with sound judgment and proactive thinking.
  • Strong expertise in development writing to engage donors and corporate sponsors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English or related field required
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in leadership of communications, including print, digital and video.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, content management systems, project management systems and social media platforms
  • Prior experience working in a nonprofit organization preferred
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong team player who leads with positivity and a can-do attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple projects on deadline
  • Must possess the ability to succeed in a learning environment
  • Portfolio work required; must be compromised of work written exclusively by the writer

Working Conditions:

  • Work in an office environment.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • May require work outside a traditional Monday – Friday work week, and outside normal business hours.
