The Make-A-Wish internship program is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students who have a goal of being a leader in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the internship program is to help undergraduate and/or graduate students further cultivate their skills through a real-life work experience.
The Human Resources (HR) internship will provide the opportunity to gain professional experience within the areas of employee engagement, learning and development and HR information system (HRIS). The majority focus for this internship will be on leading employee recognition programs, strengthening workplace culture and developing and deploying informed employee engagement strategies, with the opportunity to assist with planning and scheduling employee development activities and supporting the HRIS system.
Throughout the internship, duties and responsibilities could include:
- Coordinate and maintain employee recognition program, looking for ways to streamline and alter program to best fit employees’ needs
- Participate in talent acquisition processes, to include: sourcing, screening, scheduling, and onboarding.
- Support development and deployment of employee engagement trainings for leaders
- Assist with the launch of an organization-wide group mentoring program
- Develop employee-facing communications, leveraging multiple communication channels
- Conduct research to support Inclusion and Diversity programming
- Knowledge of HR functions, either through coursework or employment experience
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate information verbally and in writing with confidence and clarity
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with employee information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and internet research tools
- Ability to manage workload effectively including planning, organizing, prioritizing and meeting deadlines
- Event planning or project management experience preferred
- Experience using HR systems, such as ADP preferred
- Some volunteer experience preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with the Make-A-Wish mission and service population is preferred.
