Senior Program Manager, Wish and Volunteer Center

This position is responsible for guiding the development of the Wish and Volunteer Center, a national technology platform designed to support the Make-A-Wish wish-granting process from end-to-end (referral, eligibility, wish-granting, volunteer management and post-wish processes). This position serves as the Product Owner, in an AGILE development model.  The Senior Program Manager partners with key stakeholders, technology teams, and Make-A-Wish chapters to ensure that the system design and functionality meets the workflow needs of chapter staff, volunteers and other end users, that future enhancements are prioritized to meet business needs, and that the system achieves the desired business value and operational efficiencies.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as primary product owner and business/chapter liaison for the Wish & Volunteer Center initiative;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create a product roadmap that aligns business needs, strategies and desired outcomes;
  • Become an expert user of the platform and fully understand its implications on wish-granting and volunteer processes, workflow and reporting at the chapter level;
  • Empowered to make key decisions about system priorities, design requirements and implementation on behalf of stakeholders, escalating issues requiring broader discussion or feedback;
  • Provide direction to the design team on product development and prioritization. Gather and document business requirements for future development for communication to the design and development teams;
  • Ensure that business, quality and functional goals are met with each product release;
  • Create and maintain list of product features, enhancement requests and defects. Manage the backlog for sprint and release planning. Assess, prioritize and recommend fixes and feature development based upon feedback gathered from project stakeholders, end users and technology team;
  • Facilitate communications and feedback loop with chapters and end-users on product design and development, deployment plans, and planned releases;
  • Serve as a member of the core project team. Participate in SCRUM meetings and core team meetings.
  • Identify and raise potential risks/roadblocks to the core team, providing proposed options and recommendations;
  • Partner with stakeholders to plan and design change management, training and implementation strategies with chapters;
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and demos when scheduled;
  • Performs other job related duties, as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management or related field
Skills/Experience: 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years experience managing large projects in a complex federated or decentralized business model.
  • Non-profit experience and Make-A-Wish experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading and deploying complex system design, process improvement or technology projects;
  • Previous work experience with AGILE teams is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills required. Prior experience with Salesforce desired but not required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in an office environment.
  • Some domestic travel required.
  • May require work outside a traditional Monday – Friday work week, and outside normal business hours.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • First-hand knowledge and experience with Make-A-Wish chapter operations and mission delivery processes is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, organize and prioritize work, delegate effectively, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Possess a fundamental understanding of end-to-end customer experience integration and dependencies.
  • Mindset toward continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage effectively with individuals at all experience and professional levels.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and strong judgment, with the ability to make timely and appropriate decisions in a highly collaborative manner.
  • Knowledge of AGILE principles and product ownership model a plus but not required.
