Perform financial reporting functions for chapters who have elected to use Centralized Financial Services (CFS). Responsible for special projects, annual audits, tax reporting compliance, and other reporting needs that support the CFS department and the Chapters CFS supports. The Financial Reporting Specialist will work directly with the Director of Finance, CFS and the Senior Manager of Accounting Support, CFS to provide strong customer service to chapters.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Leads the annual Form 990 preparation and filing process for all chapters utilizing CFS, including compilation of required information for external tax preparer, reviewing draft Form 990s for accuracy, and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Assists the Senior Manager, Accounting Support in leading the annual audit process by being an additional point person with the external auditors, gathering information, helping to manage appropriate deadlines, and preparing necessary schedules.
- Builds complex budgeting and re-forecasting tools for use by chapters and other team members.
- Creates custom reports and queries in Financial Edge, and/or Excel.
- Reviews, researches, and analyzes data. Responds to inquiries from chapter staff.
- Acts as ‘go to’ person for special projects for Accounting and Finance, specifically tied to those chapters electing to use CFS.
- Train team members on the use of financial software & Microsoft Products.
- Performs other job related duties, as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field required.
Skills/Experience:
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of financial accounting including generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial statement preparation to ensure accurate, efficient, timely financial reporting and related processes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to network with other departments within the organization, as well as externally with chapter personnel, chapter’s Board of Directors, auditors, and tax preparation professionals regarding various issues related to the financial reporting process, annual audits, 990s, and budget reporting.
- Knowledge of IRS regulations and deadlines for annual tax filings.
- Familiarity of audit planning processes and procedures.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and information systems applications, in a non-profit environment.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of trust and confidentiality and possess strong business ethics.
Qualifications:
- 2 –4 years of experience in accounting and/or financial reporting required.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required, including demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations is helpful.
- Experience in Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge is helpful.
