In addition, the ideal candidate:

  • Really, truly enjoys "sales" – which we define as effectively telling the story of Habitat Omaha and being bold in asking for support for our mission (traditional fundraising experience is not necessary). This is a person who loves sharing stories about the good things people are doing and presenting opportunities for engagement – and isn’t afraid of failure.
  • Thrives in a team environment – ideally including experience with team selling. This person can be hyper-focused on exceeding their own goals, but knows that asking for help, ideas, or support makes them more effective – even if that means handing over leadership to someone else. This is someone who has made a few big mistakes in trying to go it alone, and has let go of the need to get all the credit. This person understands that being part of a team means seeking the best for the whole organization, and that’s one of their biggest motivators – being a part of something much bigger.
  • Has an incredible level of persistence – just keeps going at the goal, despite roadblocks and rejections, and can keep others moving forward as well. This person has encountered plenty of rejection, and is constantly thinking about what new strategies to try out in their next approach, or how to gently plow through resistance.
  • Is open and coachable – this is a life-long learner, who has a few key mentors whose honest feedback he or she continually seeks out and implements. This person isn’t attached to doing things the way they’ve always done them, and is always looking for new models or strategies to try out and incorporate until they become natural.
