Position Title: Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors

JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Director provides overall management and leadership to the SPSHFH organization in accordance with the directives, policies and objectives set by the SPSHFH Board of Directors. Together, the Board and Executive Director ensure SPSHFH’s relevance to the community, the accomplishment of SPSHFH’s mission and vision, and the accountability of SPSHFH to its diverse constituents.

The ED will work alongside the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic goals for SPSHFH. The ED will lead the organization in achieving these goals by developing and implementing strategic and operational plans and integrating the work of committees, staff and volunteers into a coherent, consistent and effective program of advocacy, construction, financing and family support. This work will result in successful home ownership for SPSHFH’s partner families.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Strategic planning, program development and administration:
  • Supervise and provide direction to the staff responsible for all functions of SPSHFH: construction, retail stores, volunteer management, family services, mortgage servicing, site selection, marketing, fundraising, faith relations, and administration.
  • Provide leadership in developing program and organizational and financial plans with the board of directors and staff, and execute the plans and policies as directed by the board of directors.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all governmental agencies necessary for SPSHFH to successfully conduct its programs.
  • Ensure that all required official records and documents are maintained, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and Habitat guidelines.
  • Work closely with SPSHFH staff to pursue and secure grants and implement fundraising plans.
  • Works with legislators, regulatory agencies, volunteers, and representatives of the non-profit sector to promote legislative and regulatory policies that encourage a healthy community and address the issues of SPSHFH’s constituencies.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends within affordable housing, the Thurston County area, and broader Habitat community.
  • Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work.
Communication and public relations:
  • Keep the board fully informed on the condition of SPSHFH and all important factors.
  • Promote the activities of SPSHFH, including its programs and goals.
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with local and state community groups and non-profit organizations.
  • Represent the programs and promote and share the goals for SPSHFH to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
Staff management:
  • Be responsible for the recruitment and effective employment of SPSHFH staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure job descriptions are developed, and regular performance evaluations are performed. Ensure sound human resources practices are in place per federal and state laws and best practices.
  • Encourage staff and volunteer development and education. Assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.
  • Maintain a climate which attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse staff.
Budgeting and financial management:
  • Responsible for maintaining sound financial practices.
  • Work with staff, the executive committee and the finance committee, and the board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
  • Ensure that adequate funds are available for SPSHFH to fulfill its mission of building homes, communities and hope.
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills and Abilities:
  • Must understand and appreciate the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
  • Demonstrate a high level of written and verbal communication skills and be effective in grant writing, public speaking, and the development of presentations.
  • Possess strong negotiating skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with prospective donors, community leaders, partner families, staff and volunteers.
  • Provide leadership, maintaining and communicating a clear vision for the future of SPSHFH.
Experience and Education:
  • A minimum of five (5) years of non-profit experience in a senior management position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, non-profit management, public relations, human resources or another related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated history of organizational design, staff development, fundraising, community partnerships, financial management, grant writing, and board relations.
  • Experience in staff management and team building.
  • Experience developing fundraiser campaigns and working with major donors.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Experience with construction or related fields preferred.
  • Experience with a Habitat for Humanity affiliate preferred.
