Project Supervisor, Home Preservation

The Home Preservation Project Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of all home repair projects that include volunteer participation. They will safely lead and supervise volunteer groups performing various minor home repairs at single family homes owned and occupied by low income homeowners residing in San Jose. The Project Supervisor also serves as the public face of Habitat EBSV, educating and building positive relationships with homeowners and volunteers. This is a particularly rewarding position with a lot of autonomy for a qualified individual to work in a nonprofit setting with a talented team of individuals who are motivated to help others.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Volunteer Leadership

  • Lead groups of volunteers in the completion of basic home repair projects including painting, basic carpentry, and landscaping
  • Employ best practices in volunteer management techniques to facilitate positive experiences
  • Maintain site safety through modeling of safety practices and guidelines and site monitoring (training provided)
  • Provide on‐site orientations and safety talks to groups of volunteers
  • Set up and cleanup project sites ensuring sites are left in a clean and orderly manner at the end of each day
  • Pack and transport all required tools, equipment and materials for each project (vehicle provided)

Project Coordination

  • Conduct site visits in advance of each project to determine project scope, budget, and time requirements
  • Create and maintain a schedule of projects in conjunction with Volunteer Manager
  • Serve as the primary Habitat staff contact for families being served from scheduling through project completion
  • Complete project work on site independently as needed
  • Maintain site logs and reporting for each project
  • Maintain a clean and stocked warehouse inventory
  • Order rental equipment as needed
  • Comply with all construction-related regulations including OSHA and EPA lead requirements
  • Participate in regular planning and debriefing meetings as needed
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 2 years of full-time work experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with customers or clients required, experience working with volunteers preferred
  • Work experience or training in carpentry and/or painting preferred but not required
  • Basic computer skills required, experience using a database to track information preferred
  • Valid CA Class C driver’s license and comfortable driving a large van
  • Availability to work a regular Tuesday through Saturday regular work schedule

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time, often on rough and uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Ability to work on ladders and heights of up to two‐stories
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions outdoors
