Save the Children is seeking a Technical Director for an anticipated two-year USAID-funded Prevention of Early and Forced Marriage program in Niger.  This ambitious program focuses on significantly reducing the prevalence of early marriage in targeted areas of Niger. The Technical Director and team will need to employ new and innovative approaches and will require close collaboration with communities, peer organizations, and government stakeholders.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead and oversee the development and delivery of a high quality, innovative, cost effective and sustainable program, including robust gender integration and an overall gender transformative approach to project implementation.
  • Provide technical and program oversight in the design and day-to-day management of implementation.  
  • Ensure the technical and methodological soundness of activities and, in collaboration with the project team and partners, support the design of service delivery strategies, based on sound and current evidence.  
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in the design, implementation and evaluation of technically sound, cost-effective, and practical approaches and strategies for gender transformation and GBV prevention and response interventions of the program.
  • Collaborate closely with the Ministries of Health, Education, and Population, Women’s Promotion and Protection of Children and key USAID Implementing Partners and other donors and key stakeholders. Based on collaboration and in consultation with USAID, refine and adjust technical approaches and annual work plans.
  • Document and disseminate innovation and good practices.
  • Oversee monitoring, analysis and reporting on gender, disability, and inclusion issues.
  • Oversee and contribute to collaborative, learning and adaptive approach throughout the entire project
Educational Background: 
Master’s Degree in international development or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibility for designing, managing and implementing complex health, gender-based violence, gender, child protection, and/or social behavior change programming in developing countries involving multiple stakeholders and implementing partners.
  • Three years of experience implementing USAID funded projects, ideally in Niger.
  • Ability to collaborate and liaise with senior ministry officials, other USAID implementing partners, other relevant programs, and senior members of the donor community.
  • Proven track record managing a project team composed of several technical experts from multi-cultural backgrounds and fostering team work.
  • Strengths in inspiring and enabling others through training, and capacity building to realize organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender equality and social inclusion values, evidenced through previous positions/programming.
  • Strong oral, written, and presentations skills in English and French.
