The Public Relations & Web Design Associate is responsible for further developing and managing the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark’s marketing and public relations efforts. This position will act as an intermediary between the public and Habitat of Greater Newark. The Associate will report to the Fund Director. The position is part-time and paid hourly on a consultant basis; salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Marketing & Public Relations

  • Design and develop content for Habitat of Greater Newark bi-annual newsletter, the Toolbox.
  • Design and develop content for Habitat of Greater Newark end of year holiday appeal.
  • Write press releases, boiler plate, and core data on behalf of Habitat of Greater Newark.
  • Organize news conferences and speaking engagements to help gain public’s attention.
  • Responsible for making sure all key people are in attendance for Habitat of Greater Newark dedications and other events as necessary.
  • Increase the frequency of opportunities for publicity.
  • Maintain good relationships with the media, so when necessary, media items are picked up by the desired publications.
  • Handle the public image of Habitat of Greater Newark.
  • Develop and execute creative ways to penetrate Hudson and Union County markets in coordination with advertising campaign.
  • Web Design
  • Edit, revise, update and/or create new textual and graphical content.
  • Regular and thorough backups of Habitat of Greater Newark website.
  • Monitor website functionality.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required, master's degree a plus.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of marketing/public relations and web design experience.
  • Candidate will have experience developing and maintaining advertising campaign as it pertains to entering new markets and/or rebranding.
  • Candidate will have experience in writing successful press releases, organizing events, public speaking, and media training.
  • Standing relationship with media in the market preferred.
  • Candidate must have a strong ability to articulate the organization's relevance and value to media.
  • Candidate must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and be knowledgeable about diverse communities and issues in affordable housing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently and in team settings.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite required.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary ranges between $25-$50 per hour depending on experience. Hours are part-time: 16-20 hours. Some hours may be work-at-home.
