The Food Donations and Food Sourcing Manager leads a team focused on achieving food acquisition goals, and works collaboratively with the fundraising arm of Food Bank For New York City to accomplish the organization’s strategies and objectives in fulfilling the mission of feeding hungry New Yorkers while providing them with nutritious food.
The Food Donations and Food Sourcing Manager will strengthen existing donor relationships as well as identify and develop new donor relationships to increase food donations. The Food Donations and Food Sourcing Manager is directly responsible for donor development with farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers, distributors, retail grocery and food service companies. They work as an integral member of the Development team to accomplish the organization’s philanthropic strategies and objectives in fulfilling Food Bank For New York City’s mission. Donor stewardship is a critical focus area, encompassing the development, cultivation, solicitation, and retention of relationships with food (i.e., manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, growers, food processors, etc.), transportation, and service/supply industry representatives.
Partnership Management
- Manage partnerships with existing donors and strengthen engagement to increase donation opportunities.
- Develop innovative partnerships that address food supply chain challenges. Identify and cultivate new food manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, growers, packers, and food processors.
- Develop strategic business plans for annual and long-term procurements.
- Provide professional, responsive and appreciative customer service to all food industry partners.
- Maintain donor database and record notes from donor interactions.
- Monitor industry trends and apply findings to plans and strategies.
- Educate donors about the Food Bank’s mission and the value and business benefits associated with donating.
- Communicate with donors regarding food safety, quality and packaging concerns to ensure we receive the most wholesome food for our member charities and clients.
- Coordinate communication with food donors, including the immediate acknowledgment of contributions and sustained stewardship of relationships
Operations
- Coordinate with Food Distribution team to manage inventory and transportation logistics. Work collaboratively with Food Distribution and Member Services colleagues to ensure that food acquisition strategies align with the strategic direction and the needs of Food Bank's Member Network.
- Manage a computerized database tracking, analyzing and reporting on selected metrics; i.e., pounds, donations by category, current, lapsed, prospective donors
- Monitor key aspects of Food Bank food distribution impacted by food donations (i.e., product dump reports and repack efforts) and develop/implement recommendations in collaboration with Operations and Engagement teams;
- Keep up to date on trends in the food industry, within the food bank network and of food distribution;
- Minimum three years of food donations, food sourcing, sales/business development, food marketing, account management, or comparable experience.
