Development Strategy and Operations Manager

The Founders Affiliate of the American Heart Association (AHA) is recruiting to fill a project management type of position to serve as the right hand to the Senior VP, Greater NYC/LI. The Development Strategy and Operations Manage r must be able to exercise skilled judgement and initiative when the SVP is not readily accessible and must have a solid understanding of AHA fundraising, field operation; mission and business processes.

The Development Strategy and Operations Manage r will be responsible for the operational support of the fundraising and mission planning and strategy process at the NYC major metro level of the organization. In this position you will organize and manage key projects and deliver the support to ensure a high level of responsiveness, efficiency and accuracy required for strategic support to Development and Health Strategies teams. You will serve as lead on reporting for development, ensure development operations functions are proactive, efficient, effective, innovative, and collaborative with Health Strategies initiatives for the market. You will provide support for projects initiated by the SVP, VP-Development, and VP- Health Strategies.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Engage with volunteers at all levels in support of the work of the NYC volunteers and staff team.
  • Manage Board of Director meetings including administrative and operational support.
  • Manage NYC campaign and mission reporting to the SVP and VPs including Gold Standard Board; volunteer participation in health strategy, advocacy; and fundraising campaign activities.
  • Manage the budget preparation process and ongoing variance reporting for the team.
  • Manage, support and implement various field operations key projects such as executive reports, preparation of presentations and scripts, and meeting preparation.
  • Oversight and development of consistent, vetted and up to date field resources (in partnership with team SVPs/VPs).
  • Provide direction, proactive information, team communication, and excellent customer service to SVP, VP’s.
  • Responsible for the operational support of the market planning and strategy process including serving as coordinator and reporting for development and health strategies. Manage reporting to the field including collaboration with all "feeders" of information such as Finance. Ensure timeliness, presentation, field usage, etc.
  • Provide high level administrative support to SVP and VPs as required.
  • Manage year-round calendar of all NYC field operations, integration with departments, customer segments targeted/impacted, etc.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.
Skills/Experience:

  • Strong working knowledge of event and fiscal data management systems.
  • Experience working/communicating/problem solving with senior level affiliate executives.
  • Working knowledge of management scope and accountability for SVP Development.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proven knowledge of fundraising/sales support
  • Experience in consultation to staff over which there is no reporting relationship
  • Ability to manage group processes
  • Intermediate knowledge of databases (e.g. Dynamics; Luminate; E-1; Prism)
  • Ability to form and develop strategic relationships
  • Proven ability to understand and navigate corporate cultures
  • Ability to learn and follow the strategic direction of the AHA
  • Able to plan and conduct meetings

  • Advanced computer and Microsoft product knowledge.
  • Must have the ability to lift at least 20 lbs. from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as position demands. (5% overnight travel and 5% in territory travel)
  • Ability to work outside standard hours as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to use Microsoft products, computer software, run reports and maintain accurate data.
  • Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years’ experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.
  • At least 5 years of experience fundraising field support strongly preferred.
  • Must have experience in data analysis and report interpretation. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
