Teach For America – New York is seeking a Coordinator of Community Affairs who will support the Community Affairs team to meet our highly ambitious goals of creating the conditions for great neighborhood schools in New York City. The Coordinator will be responsible for supporting with strategies and initiatives that span across the Community Affairs team, including the planning and execution of key initiatives that will drive towards our Community Affairs goals. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment that requires strong decision-making and judgment, as well as impeccable attention to detail. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building operational systems, and cultivating the strong internal relationships necessary to ensure their effectiveness. This role is also responsible for coordinating centralized data and creating reports. The Coordinator, Community Affairs will report directly to the Managing Director, Community Affairs and is a part of the broader External Affairs team.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Project Management and Team Operations (40%)

  • Provide administrative support for work streams of the Community Affairs team. This includes: alumni-facing initiatives, local recruitment efforts, government affairs, and regional marketing & communications.
  • Serve as the leading support for a portfolio of projects to include: our national alumni survey, alumni educator programming, corporate and individual volunteer engagement, local corps member recruitment events, and more.
  • Assist with the creation of TFA-branded materials intended to engage local target-audiences.
  • Support in coordination local recruitment initiatives with external partners.

Administrative Support (30%)

  • Provide administrative support to the MD, Community Affairs including calendar support, coordinating internal and external meetings and conference calls, arranging travel,processing reimbursements and managing correspondence.
  • Track the Community Affairs team budget and process expense reports for team members and the MD, Community Affairs.
  • Gather materials for events and meetings with elected officials and external constituents.
  • Input, maintain, and update information in our constituent management database (Salesforce) in alignment with Teach For America protocol.
  • Track and report progress against Community Affairs targets and goals.
  • Coordinate internal team meetings working closely with MD, Community Affairs and collaborating with Coordinator, Development.

Event Planning and Execution (20%)

  • Work closely with Community Affairs team members to coordinate logistics for events across work streams, including but not limited to alumni leadership group events, recruitment and partnerships  initiatives and campaigns, ambassadors programming, volunteer activities and school visits.
  • Support event execution by managing registration, material preparation, onsite volunteer coordination and follow-up mailings.
  • Support event execution by sourcing hiring vendors, maintain communications with contact and ensure vendors are paid with compliance.
  • Work closely with the budget tracker to submit all invoices for events.
  • Track relevant publications and social media by sending weekly updates to team.

Team-wide and general staff responsibilities (10%)

  • Participate in corps member selection for up to 6 days total throughout the year.
  • Matriculate incoming New York corps members during 4-5 confirmation windows throughout the year.
  • Staff large-scale regional events such as Institute? , often times for a whole day or multiple days at a time.
  • Attend and participate in all-staff meetings, retreats, and step backs throughout the year.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment requiring management of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong track record of building relationships within and across teams
  • Previous marketing, communication, and/or events experience a plus
  • 1-3 years of work experience

Work Demands
