Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) has a long history of bringing in new monthly donors through street canvassing through external agencies. As part of the growth strategy of the organization, AIUSA has decided to start an in-house street canvass acquiring new monthly donors for the organization. The ambition is for this program to be in up to ten cities nationwide recruiting up to 50,000 new monthly donors each year giving long-term monthly donations through automatic payment methods. The City Canvass Director is responsible for the daily operations and management of their city’s Canvass Office.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Evaluation: Fill out and submit weekly reports on recruitment and office performance.
  • Office Management: Manage the day to day operations of the office. Create weekly and monthly plans for staff and office. Submit timesheet for all staff. Send human resource and tax documents. Create long-term and short-term site schedules. Attend meetings with other groups to negotiate sites.
  • Staff Recruitment: Create and implement an effective recruitment plan that will work to generate applicants at a consistent level. Conduct phone interviews, group overviews and one-on-one interviews to select applicants. Track all recruitment data though-out interview process.
  • Staff Development: Set performance expectations and standards for staff. Train and coach staff to canvass effectively and meet expectations. Conduct warnings and dismiss staff when necessary. Identify, train and develop leaders in your office to assist in staff management. Facilitate weekly meetings for staff that include goals, motivation and trainings needed to ensure weekly success. Create daily and weekly plans for staff based on performance. Meet with team leaders weekly to discuss staff skills development and training needed.
  • Supporter Management: Ensure that all member data is collected and secure. Ensure that all staff are trained to be professional and respectful in all interactions with the public.
  • Culture: Create and encourage an inclusive culture based on values of trust and respect for all people within the program. Recognize behaviors that perpetuate historical patterns of oppression and discrimination and act to minimize these behaviors within the program.
  • Budget: Manage office spending and stay within office budget.
  • Other: Other assignments provided by manager.
