Associate, Individual Giving

As the Associate of Individual Giving (AIG), you will provide critical support for the regional development team, enabling New York to move more efficiently and effectively toward reaching ambitious revenue goals from individuals.You will work closely with the Director of Individual Giving (DIG) and Manager of Individual Giving (MIG).to achieve the vision, goals and strategies for increasing and diversifying the individual giving donor base in New York.

The AIG will work collaboratively with the team on projects related to individual giving including: “Sponsor A Teacher” campaign (our leadership annual giving campaign that invests donors in our mission through direct exposure to corps members), “Sponsor A Semester” campaign (our pilot campaign that connects donors with corps members via social media), Junior Board (a group of young professionals focused on building awareness and financial support from New York City’s young professionals network), prospect research, and development operations.

The ideal candidate will be passionate for the job with the ability to be able to organize, prioritize and track a large volume of projects and tasks, possess exceptional attention to detail and a high bar for quality, be a critical thinker who displays sound judgment in prioritizing actions based on outcomes, and have an ability to receive and incorporate feedback constructively. The AIG will report directly to the DIG.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Associate, Individual Giving’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support in managing, cultivating and stewarding donors and prospects through the Sponsor A Teacher and Sponsor A Semester campaigns (25%)
    • Work closely with the Director of Individual Giving (DIG) to strategically plan a sequence of communications, actions and events for each donor in the portfolio to increase their understanding of and commitment to Teach For America
    • Identify, recruit and train corps members to engage with external supporters and manage all corps member interactions with development efforts
    • Collect and synthesize relevant statistics, stories, and anecdotes to be used by your team in tailoring donor pitches and meeting materials
  • Provide support in managing the Junior Board (JB) (10%)
    • Work closely with the DIG to create systems to organize and support JB activities, as well as leverage the networks and resources of JB members
    • Prepare and support DIG to execute actions in line with JB strategic and operational plans (i.e. events, quarterly meetings, etc.), and monitor progress against plan (i.e. member participation tracking, meeting briefs and materials, meeting downloads, etc.)
  • Conduct excellent research and data analysis on prospects and donors (20%)
    • Conduct research to identify potential donors to add to region’s prospect list specifically looking for evidence of whether a prospect is mission-aligned, has capacity to contribute and whether there are existing connections we can leverage to get in front of the prospect
    • Prepare tailored meeting briefs and materials based on research and analysis  
  • Create, improve and maintain the operational systems required to manage a high volume of donor cultivation, stewardship and research (25%)
    • Maintain a comprehensive fundraising database and filing system that includes accurate and complete donor information (background research, biography, etc.)
    • Efficiently track all communications, actions, events, and  fundraising commitments for each donor in the portfolio
    • Work closely with the rest of the development team to manage the calendar of all development activities related to individual giving, and to maximize opportunities that span multiple funding streams
  • Plan, organize and execute successful events geared to cultivating prospects and stewarding current donors (i.e., school visits, receptions, lunch & learns, corporate breakfasts, etc.) (10%)
    • Create event project plans with key actions, milestones and deadlines
    • Manage all logistics (i.e., sending invitations and tracking RSVPs, creating and printing event materials, organizing volunteers, setting up and cleaning up, executing follow-up with participants)
    • Manage up to DIG and other team members to execute as needed
  • Uphold regional team responsibilities (10%)
    • Support, attend, and/or participate in all regional and External Affairs team activities, including corps member selection and matriculation, corps member professional development days, staff meetings, functional team meetings and retreats, and regional orientation
    • Attend and actively engage in professional development learning opportunities
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of six months experience in fundraising is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience strongly preferred
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to multi-task
  • Possesses a spirit of flexibility, openness to feedback and implementing it, and a strong customer service ethic
  • Comfortable with and excited by managing back-end operations and taking care of the details
  • Motivated by getting results through others and able to prepare superiors and peers to execute
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Critical thinker who displays good judgment in prioritizing problems to resolve and opportunities to pursue
  • Exceptional personal responsibility for meeting goals and a track record of success
  • Ability to operate with purpose, urgency, and accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Knowledge of MS Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel are preferred
  • Knowledge of Salesforce is preferred
