The Manager develops and distributes financial reporting across the company, ensuring transparency and promoting fiscal responsibility. The Manager will become a subject matter expert regarding the organization's financial systems, processes, workflows, and will work with the Director of Financial Systems Projects to engage inter-departmental teams to implement new financial system applications and/or integrations to improve and translate business goals into technical solutions. - Provide first line of support for financial systems supporting accounting, purchasing, financial reporting, contract management and budgeting; understand table structures of financial system applications.
- Work with the support providers and IT to maintain financial system applications and server performance.
- Manage user rights and permissions within all financial system applications, maintain chart of accounts, and maintain strong internal controls and security around application administration.
- Diagnose problems and user-interface challenges with the applications, reports, and data; solicit improvement needs and suggestions from end users; manage service tickets with support vendor and collaborate on solutions; provide user updates.
- Train staff in usage of financial system applications; enable finance teams to cross-train to provide suitable back-up support for all financial functions.
- Support the shared Finance Google Drive by approving and monitoring access and managing the file structure.
- Work with both Finance and end-user Departments to design and build financial reports, trend analyses to forecast budget performance and reports using SQL, advanced Excel and other reporting tools, to deliver more efficient, effective, and accessible reports and analyses.
- Maintain accounting structures and report rollups (chart of accounts and dimensions) across all financials system applications.
- Coordinate with the Budget Director for the annual and mid-year budget, reflecting company budgets accurately in all financial system applications and ensuring accurate reporting of budget data.
- Manage and maintain the financial data import and export routines and ensure data integrity across all system applications.
- Devise and implement process and system improvements to create more seamless and timely reporting.
- Design, develop, test and implement new functionality and processes within new and existing financial applications, contribute to upgrades and modifications.
- Create appropriate technical documentation and provide business unit support.
- Ensure that necessary application fixes or enhancements are thoroughly tested and reviewed and ensuring project deliverables and timelines are completed as planned.
- Analyze and revise business processes to improve timeliness and efficiency of data processing and reporting, including the use of e-workflows. Ensure that appropriate internal controls and security is in place.
- Participate in the evaluation, planning, implementation and customization of third party software applications and in making related policy recommendations.
- Coordinate with IT/development teams and support providers on software integrations.
- Assist in the maintenance of vendor relationships for financial applications and track status of open support tickets as well as ongoing project milestones.
- Communicate with the user-base regarding financial application related matters throughout the federation, including changes, current issues and workarounds, and developing user competencies.
- Keep systems configuration compliant with current business requirements. Work with IT and support providers to investigate and correct any workflow or configuration issues.
- Ensure appropriate application and training documentation is developed and maintained and manage financial data files and servers in accordance with required file retention policies.
- Coordinate with other operational units to ensure that financial system applications are available following any 'disaster' or unexpected events (including testing).
- BA/BS degree required, concentration in MIS, Finance, Accounting or a related field strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of SQL functions and queries, advanced Excel skills (including VBA).
- Ability to coordinate finance and technology disciplines, understanding of accounting fundamentals.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to accomplish multiple tasks within agreed upon time frames, ability to work effectively alone as well as in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Good interpersonal skills, necessary to build and maintain relationships and interact across all levels.
- Relevant analytical and/or financial system work experience preferred.
- Background in 501c(3) non-profits, and progressive organizations preferred.
