Development Assistant - Principal and Major Giving

The Development Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Principal and Major Giving staff. S/he will be an important part of the National Development team, assisting with a variety of projects to help the National Audubon Society grow its individual giving fundraising

Areas of Responsibility: 

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Development Assistant will:

  • Be responsible for the extensive scheduling of conference calls, appointments, meetings and travel arrangements for executive development staff;
  • Assist the VP and Major Gift Officers with basic technical and logistical needs, such as travel & expense reconciliation, printing and preparing materials, and fundraising mailings.
  • Set up internal and external meetings; help plan staff workshops and cultivation events, order catering, and collaborate with other support staff as needed.
  • Process gift transmittals for donations received at the location and enter information into Audubon’s donor database, Salesforce, for team members.  Create and distribute report information.
  • Ensure timely processing of all bills and contracts.
  • Other special projects as assigned by the VP.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1-3 years of work experience in a professional setting; nonprofit development experience is a plus.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a strong ability to edit and proofread documents.
  • Detail-oriented approach to work with strong organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • A self-starter, who is able to prioritize and complete work with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines.
  • Professional, personable, and efficient approach to all aspects of position; must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A flexible approach to work, with the willingness to travel and work some evenings, if needed.
  • Interest in development, conservation and the mission of the National Audubon Society.
  • Experience with donor tracking software and web-based systems strongly desired. Knowledge of Salesforce a strong plus
