The Associate, Development will provide best in class operations and data management support for the region, with a focus on supporting our development operations, stewardship, and external relations execution. The Associate, Development will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and customer service, and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. The Associate will have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion. The ideal candidate enjoys working in teams, is a self-starter, has boundless optimism, builds strong relationships and sets and achieves goals. This individual must possess outstanding poise, and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences including corps members, alumni, high-level funders and Teach For America senior staff. The Associate, Development Operations reports to the MD, Development.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Development, Data Systems, and Operations (65%)

  • Lead, own, and execute TFA GNO development data and information management systems, specifically our team’s use of Salesforce as our Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Assist other team members with our CRM
  • Assist team members with prospect research.  Engage with national research resources where needed.
  • Vet and update data on constituents
  • Generate reports and dashboards to promote efficiency on the Development team.
  • Support portfolio managers by creating up-to-date external stakeholder information
  • Lead operations and execution for all external stewardship initiatives
  • Manage a system for processing, acknowledging, and stewarding donor gifts, including working with the national Revenue Operations team to reconcile our financial systems and working with portfolio managers to ensure timely acknowledgments of gifts to our donors
  • Create and manage data management systems for all external communications.

Administrative Support (15%)

  • Organize the logistics of Development team retreats, meetings, and social activities (including meeting space, technology, and internal communications)
  • Assist with operations and logistics for quarterly Advisory Board meetings
  • Assist with the operations and logistics for donor events that portfolio managers plan
  • Work with our Office Manager to order team supplies for mailings and meetings on an ongoing basis throughout the year
  • Serve as the Development team’s Budget Tracker, working with our regional Manager of Finance, Data & Compliance to manage the development team budget and non-payroll spending

Team Responsibilities (10%)

  • Prepare for and lead check-ins with your manager around progress towards your goals and your ongoing development
  • Prepare for and participate in Development team meetings and retreats
  • Collaborate with and support your Development colleagues’ work and development

Region-wide and Organization-wide Responsibilities (10%)

Educational Background: 
High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
Skills/Experience: 

You may be the ideal candidate for this role if:

  • You love databases. You will be responsible for maintaining development information on our CRM system.  You will ensure that all our data is perfect and that we are utilizing our system to its fullest potential.
  • You are extremely organized and exceptional at managing deadlines. You don’t break a sweat when juggling ten different deadlines.  You create detailed calendars with deadlines, reporting needs, and planning during the year.  You are on top of the different requirements for each work stream and enjoy working with stakeholders to make sure we are always putting forth our best work.
  • You like building relationships and are great at lateral management. You will work across teams to manage development operations. You will work within the development team to analyze and report on performance and progress to goal in all areas.
  • You love data. You enjoy digging in to mail return rates, retention information, and campaign performance analysis. You are great at looking at numbers and interpreting information.

Prior Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in education and non-profits strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and CRM or donor databases such as Salesforce required

Work Demands

  • Willingness to work occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends (for Board meetings, donor engagement events, etc.)
