Manager, Individual Giving

The Manager, Individual Giving (IG) is an important member of the regional external affairs team, helping lead us toward achieving our annual fundraising goal of $4.7 million.  You will manage and drive the strategy of our individual giving portfolio at all levels, including developing and executing the system for renewing IG donors, sourcing and pursuing new IG prospects at all levels, and planning and executing events and campaigns.  You have an intrinsic attention to detail, organizational proficiency, knack for learning and building new systems, and a unique ability to manage. You are able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and easily navigate multiple projects while operating with Teach For America’s core values. The Manager, IG is part of the four-person external affairs team in Nashville, and will report directly to the Managing Director of External Affairs.

Areas of Responsibility: 

IG Donor Renewals and Stewardship (50%)

  • Work in partnership with the Managing Director to set ambitious and feasible IG funding goals, including donor retention goals.
  • Achieve our goal of raising $430,000 in individual giving in our current fiscal year and grow the portfolio in future years, as determined by our annual planning process. 
  • Lead the development of strategies to steward current Nashville-Chattanooga IG donors at all gift levels – from $10 to our major donor levels, which can exceed $150,000.  Manage up to the Managing Director and Executive Director to execute strategies and manage all related internal systems. Strategies could include in-person meetings, updates from Teach For America classrooms, holiday cards, handwritten letters, phone calls, emails and more.
  • Drive usage of Teach For America’s Salesforce.com technology (TFACT) to track relationships with IG donors and monitor progress of renewal systems.
  • Oversee our region’s grassroots fundraising initiatives for individual givers at all gift levels by leveraging our local networks, including Teach For America corps members, alumni, etc.
  • Track, collect and process all Nashville-Chattanooga IG donations in partnership with the Manager, External Affairs to ensure efficiency and compliance in processing IG donations.
  • Partner with the Manager, External Affairs to execute donor stewardship strategies that we have adopted as a region.  Examples could include inviting donors to and supporting the execution of school tours, donor events, donor updates, and more. 
  • Assume a proactive role in driving our gratitude systems and ethos, including executing timely gift acknowledgement letters for IG donors.

 New Donor Sourcing and Cultivation (20%)

  • Set and drive towards ambitious goals related to new IG donor cultivation.
  • Develop and execute internal systems for researching and qualifying new IG prospects and integrating them into your cultivation strategies.
  • Lead the development of strategies to cultivate new IG donors and manage up to the Managing Director, External Affairs and the Executive Director to execute these strategies.
  • Drive usage of Teach For America’s Salesforce.com technology (TFACT) to source new IG prospects and monitor progress of new IG prospect cultivation systems.

 Fundraising Events and Cross-Team Collaboration (15%)

  • Assume a leadership role in the planning and execution of fundraising events which support the cultivation and stewardship of regional donors, including IG donors. Events could include but are not limited to home fundraiser dinners, meet-your-teacher events, etc.
  • Assume a proactive role in supporting collaboration across the External Affairs Team, including updates on progress-to-goal, team collaboration meetings, and more.

 Regional and Organizational Stewardship (15%)
Support team-wide priorities for Nashville-Chattanooga and organizational-wide initiatives. Examples include:

  • Participating in staff committees and task forces
  • Corps member recruitment, admissions, and matriculation
  • Team meetings and professional development
  • Regional events and programming (such as teacher orientation and end-of-year celebration)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Development/fundraising experience strongly preferred
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Enjoy creating and implementing systems to increase efficiency, effectiveness and data accuracy
  • Uncommon level of personal responsibility with exceptional results orientation and a proven track record of achieving ambitious goals
  • Excited by the challenges of achieving very ambitious fundraising goals, and satisfied by playing a collaborative role
  • Able to effectively manage up tasks/actions to managers to achieve ambitious, measurable results
  • Possesses a spirit of flexibility, a positive outlook and a strong customer service ethic
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong research, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Is passionate about our mission, believes deeply in the importance of inspiring/investing external people in our mission/work and operates with a customer service mindset
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of MS Outlook and Salesforce strongly preferred.

 Additional Work Demands

  • Willing and able to work some early mornings, evenings or weekends when that furthers team or regional goals
  • Willing and able to travel 2-3 times per year for professional development purposes
