We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Project Director for an anticipated multiyear project to improve postpartum hemorrhage prevention and management in Kenya. The activity aims to improve maternal health outcomes through expanded availability and utilization of interventions (medication or otherwise) to prevent and treat postpartum hemorrhage up to ten selected counties in Kenya. The program will work with county governments on introduction of new interventions and strengthen existing health systems to support their successful introduction and use within current public sector health system infrastructure.
The Project Director will be an FHI 360 employee working and placed at the country office in Nairobi with frequent travel and possible long-term placement in relevant county sites. Under the guidance of the country director and project Technical Partner, the Project Director will manage coordination and assistance with implementation of national policy surrounding new postpartum hemorrhage prevention and treatment interventions to health systems in up to ten selected counties. Specifically, the Project Director will collaborate on costed and practical implementation plan development for carbetocin and select PPH prevention and management modalities with the Ministry of Health and national-level stakeholders and then work with county governments in adapting the implementation plan and providing concomitant technical assistance through the project to foster implementation within the county public sector system. The Project Director will supervise technical assistance activities across county government partners and also monitor consortium partner technical assistance.
- Direct all project activities in close coordination with the country director.
- Support the county governments to develop and implement carbetocin for PPH prevention and other PPH management modalities in all phases of the project for county-level and facility-level activities.
- Support the development and conduct of county-level needs assessments for technical assistance to achieve implementation plans; present and coordinate results into an action plan with county government and relevant stakeholders.
- Responsible for sharing best practices of county- and facility-level actors for uptake, supply chain support, and use of carbetocin at county and national levels to contribute to the knowledge base.
- Responsible for participating in policy and strategy for carbetocin introduction and expansion and for introduction of other PPH prevention/treatment modalities with relevant stakeholders and through participation in technical working groups.
- Manage the development and review of health facility service and human resources for health strategies, tools and technical resource materials (e.g., training materials, operations and mentorship plans, strategic documents, job aids) in collaboration with national government and key stakeholders to support carbetocin implementation.
- Ensure high level technical assistance is provided to count government partners to develop/revise relevant facility-based provider training and mentorship strategies, integrate evidence-based practices, and participate in capacity development of county health departments to conduct high quality training, implementation, and supportive supervision for PPH prevention and management.

- Collaborate with other technical specialists and stakeholders beyond the project to ensure coordination of training and mentorship materials and strategies and avoid gaps and overlaps.
- Provide the needed field support to ensure county- and facility-level training and care activities are implemented with quality and fidelity by field staff and consortium partners.
- Ensure harmonization with central and county government partners for training and mentorship activities and track assignment completion and hand-over of responsibility as capacity is built.
- Work closely with professional organizations to engage them in training and mentorship activities anticipated by the project.
- Supervise capacity-building of county government and consortium partners for training, mentorship, and supportive supervision.
- Carry out other technical (i.e. field operational plan and oversight for training activity implementation, modification of action planning, etc.) program or senior managerial tasks as assigned by the country director or technical partner.
- 8 - 10 years of experience in maternal health programming in Kenya.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory or management position.
- Experience in designing and implementing in maternal and child health projects that include strong clinical training components is required.
- Experience in providing technical assistance to government staff working on primary health care projects desired.
- Demonstrated proficiency with using Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Able to interpret data, identify gaps and propose solutions, and prepare reports.
- Able to problem solve and develop and implement corrective action as needed.
- Familiarity with application of program evidence to providing guided technical assistance and mentorship.
- Experience providing guided technical assistance to government partners for policy and strategy development in Kenya highly desired.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and KiSwahili.
