Planned Parenthood’s Public Policy Litigation & Law Department (PPL&L) seeks applicants for the position of Staff Attorney. This position can be located either in New York City or Washington, DC. PPL&L is a key component of PPFA’s Public Policy, Advocacy, and Communications Division. PPL&L represents PPFA and Planned Parenthood affiliates in policy matters that affect the mission of the organization. We conduct litigation in state and federal courts across the country, and provide legal advice to PPFA and Planned Parenthood affiliates about legal issues such as pending legislation, regulatory matters, and activities of those opposed to Planned Parenthood that interfere with our ability to provide comprehensive reproductive health care. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Represent PPFA or Planned Parenthood affiliates in significant and high visibility litigation.
  • Engaged in work related to pending legislation and regulatory matters.
  • The PPL&L staff is split between New York City and Washington, DC.
  • Regardless of where the Staff Attorney locates, he or she would work extensively with the entire PPL&L team, as well as with other staff in the Public Policy, Advocacy, and Communications Division.
REQUIREMENTS / TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
  • Law Degree.
  • 3-7 years of litigation experience, ideally involving questions of constitutional law.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Successful candidate’s responsibilities will be commensurate with his/her experience.
  • Knowledge of diverse groups, working with multi-cultural workforce, and sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural differences is required. 
PERSONAL QUALITIES /OTHER ATTRIBUTES
  • Established interest in public interest work, reproductive rights issues and/or impact litigation is a plus, but not mandatory.
