Construction Supervisor

Primary duties include directing skilled and unskilled volunteers, supervising paid and volunteer house leaders, directing and monitoring subcontractors, developing each house construction schedule, ordering the proper materials for just-in-time use according to the construction schedule, ordering and monitoring inspections, and assurance and compliance to appropriate building codes and to energy star requirements of ten or more houses per year. Work may be at multiple sites.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In accordance with Habitat for Humanity Stanislaus Plans, Specifications and quality requirements, supervises overall construction activity and provides leadership to construction activity, including all paid contractors.
  • Trains house leaders and crew leaders.
  • Works to ensure materials and service needs are provided in a timely manner to the job sites.
  • Treats house recipients with respect and dignity. Strives to make their construction involvement meaningful and reminds construction staff of this ministry requirement.
  • Oversees job sites on each designated workday.
  • Understands elements that contribute to successful volunteers and helps ensure that volunteers have a consistently good experience thus motivating them to return.
  • Anticipates problems to ensure schedules are met and work plans are enabled.
  • Evaluates and implements good safety practices and constantly stresses same with construction staff and volunteers.
  • Ensures that communications to volunteers are accurate and timely.
  • Identifies volunteer jobs/needs not currently filled and communicates needs to Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Utilize others on his/her team to train all volunteers.
  • Suggests potential advantageous building practices and material cost saving opportunities.
  • Oversees all site preparation and layout.
  • Oversees all warranty complaints and repairs.
  • Works with the Construction Manager to establish long and short-term goals and ensure they are met.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in the construction/contracting business.
  • Construction management experience preferred.
  • Team building experience is beneficial.
  • Experience working within or managing groups of volunteers is a plus.
  • Ability to speak Spanish and English.
