The Community Program Specialist is responsible for coordinating Community Program Volunteers and providing high-level program support for the Heart of America Chapter. The position oversees specific Community Program volunteers and events to ensure quality engagement with partners and the community. The position provides high level reporting needs to the Chapter. The position goal is to significantly scale up volunteer effectiveness enabling the Heart of America Chapter to fulfill its strategic mission.
Measureable outcomes are expansion of Volunteer Powered Program Delivery, growth in Common Programs and Services, and efficiency of staff time. The position reports to the Program Director and works in close partnership with all program staff and volunteers.
Volunteer Coordination and Management (50%)
- In collaboration with the Program Team, ensure successful volunteer recruitment, training and engagement for Alzheimer’s Association Heart of America Chapter as outlined in the Program Volunteer Expansion Plan.
- Recruit, engage, train and manage relationships with Program Volunteers to expand community visibility and service delivery of common programs and referral to the 24/7 Helpline in the 65-county service area, especially among minority, high risk and underserved populations.
- Identify, refer, and support volunteers to increase constituent engagement in all areas of the Association’s strategic plan.
- Oversee and ensuring high-quality program delivery with well-trained and highly engaged volunteers throughout the 65-county service area and surrounding counties.
- Provide support through the Volunteer Management System (VMS) for volunteer growth and service delivery.
Community Assessment/Outreach (30%)
- Analyze service data to identify gaps in service delivery and create opportunities to expand education and support programs in communities.
- Build local partnerships to increase recruitment of volunteer base for program service delivery.
- Coordinate development and execution of Community Forums throughout the 65-county service area to build community volunteer base to meet the needs of the community.
- Work with Program Manager for coordination and execution of remote learning sites.
Program Data Support (15%)
- Work with the Programs team to improve systems and infrastructure to help accomplish strategic goals, common program delivery, increased referrals to the 24/7 Helpline; increased diversity and inclusion.
- Provide regular data reporting and support for the Program team and Director of Programs ensuring better grant and KPI reporting and forecasting.
General Chapter Responsibilities (5%)
- Attend Chapter meetings and special events as scheduled.
- Support for monthly service delivery and grant reports.
- Cultivate and recruit supporters for chapter fundraising events like Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Longest Day.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple projects and priorities for program support.
- Demonstrated success in working with a diverse group of colleagues, volunteers, staff and external contacts.
- Demonstrated initiative to improve systems and infrastructure to ensure more efficient and effective program delivery.
- Excellent ability to communicate in person, print, and electronically to variable audiences.
- Ability to coach and develop staff and volunteer talents.
- High level of integrity, diplomacy and initiative to assure job completion.
- 2 - 3 years in volunteer management and program development and execution
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (especially Word & Excel) and Google; ability to learn donor and service user software and to create basic reports using those applications. Experience with data entry a plus.
