The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Multicultural Initiatives Director (MCI) in our Midwest Affiliate office located inMilwaukee, WI. This MCI Director will be handling the Milwaukee and Northern Chicago markets.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The MCI Director develops and implements a regional health equity plan within minority communities in the metro Milwaukee and Northern Chicago areas .Responsibilities include: recruiting and mobilizing volunteers within the African American and other communities; identify, cultivate, and secure prospective sponsors and strategic alliances in tandem with development staff; partnering with advocacy to increase engagement within the diverse communities; serving as liaison to governmental agencies focused on diversity and health disparities; managing the execution of events to increase attendance and impact.

Multicultural Initiatives Director will implement programs and strategies to reduce cardiovascular disease and stroke risk factors in emerging populations in assigned region. This is done through implementation of American Heart Association’s culturally appropriate programs and awareness campaigns, messaging, working with collaborators and community-based organizations, and cross-functional integration of minority health Initiatives into other American Heart Association initiatives. Director also focuses on Hispanic, Latino, and Middle Eastern communities. Also responsible for program evaluation, measurement outcomes, reporting and customer satisfaction. 

Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience working with community health issues and/or managing community health promotion or related educational programs. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position's educational requirement.
  • Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 1/2 years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.
  • Experience in marketing and development outreach within diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated relationship management experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with all levels of American Heart Association staff, volunteers and the public.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 25 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting and/or moving.
  • Must have at least intermediate knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 or higher used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs is preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
  • Ability to do daily travel up to 25% and overnight travel up to 10%.
  • Ability to work on multi-disciplinary teams.
