Position Overview: The Controller is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and providing strategic financial guidance to support our mission.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversees all aspects of the organization’s financial management including accounting functions, financial and cash flow management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking practices, financial reporting, payroll, and the annual audit process. 

Oversees and monitors the integrity of the general ledger and management systems to accurately report financial activity.

Assists in preparation for annual and other fiscal audits.  Acts as a liaison with auditors to provide them with materials necessary to complete their audit. 

Assists with preparation of the annual operating budget.  Aids individual managers in the preparation and maintenance of departmental operational budgets, consolidating these budgets and reviewing actual performance against budgeted performance. 

Provides data, analysis, and reporting for the grants team and assists the development department with donor contribution reconciliations.

Provides oversight and review of inventory processes and system, and the financial impacts of those processes and procedures.

Supervises the Human Resource function, including benefits management, maintenance of the Drug-Free Workplace Program, and employee hiring and terminations. 

Manages the finance department staff including regular performance meetings and assisting with personal development plans and training opportunities.

Working Conditions:

  • Work Environment: On-site with some remote work considered
  • Work Schedule: Five days per week – Monday through Friday – flexible work hours considered

Educational Background: 
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field required, CPA, CMA or Advanced Degree preferred. Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior accounting supervisory role, preferably in a non-profit organization.
Skills/Experience: 

Skills: Must be a skilled professional with strong accounting background including non-profit experience.

Inventory management system experience required.

Ability to work closely with diverse groups of employees required.

Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills. Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

Proficient knowledge of MS Office and computerized accounting systems; experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT (FENXT) a plus.

Flexibility and the willingness to perform hands-on work required.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $85,000 to $100,000 dependent on background and experience
  • Benefits Package: Health, Dental, Vision, Disability and Life Insurance, Simple IRA Retirement Plan, Paid Time off (PTO) eleven paid holidays, and Wellness Days off.
Additional Information: 

The Controller position will be working closely with the current CFO to transition to the CFO position after current CFO retirement, within 18-24 months.
