World Vision International in Ghana is seeking a Health, Nutrition & HIV/AIDS Technical Programme Manager to be based at the National Office in Accra- Ghana.

The Health, Nutrition & HIV/AIDS TPM is a key position in the organizational Strategy and also contributing towards the achievement of World Vision’s partnership strategy dubbed “ Our Promise 2030”. The program manager will lead efforts to update and implement the Health unit Technical Approaches and Programme. S/he will further support coordination efforts between relevant ministries and departments as well as supervise the full implementation of special grants projects including Improved Nutrition for 1st 1000 days, Neglected Tropical Diseases and the KIA green light Health project.

The Health and Nutrition Program Manager is expected to spend up to 30% of his or her time on both mainstream projects and special grants project in the field. He/she will also work with the Program Effectiveness and Resource Acquisition & Management (RAM) unit to ensure timely delivery of program reports, assessments, and resource/proposal development.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Mainstreaming/Integration:

  • Promote the incorporation of health, nutrition, and HIV&AIDS into projects & programs implemented by WV Ghana as well as creating the intentionality for linking these areas when appropriate /applicable to agriculture, food security, Education, Campaigns and WASH sectors.
  • Work with the GIK, HEA and communications departments in the planning, acquisition and deployment of medical supplies for efficient and effective programming and for the enhancement of WV Ghana’s visibility in health care delivery in the country.
  • Work closely with the sponsorship department in developing and tracking the health status of sponsored children, and again facilitate a verbal autopsy process to ensure timely and accurate reporting for child deaths.

Capacity building:

  • Identify training needs arising from strategic and local agenda, develop and deliver appropriate health, nutrition, HIV&AIDS relevant trainings for WV staff and partners.Capacitate Health Projects Managers and Officers on WV partnership Core Project Models (CPM), including Community Health Committees- COMM, CoH- Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, etc.

Resource Acquisition:

  • Work with the RAM unit to identify grantS/PNS opportunities for health and nutrition and support the preparation of winnable concept papers and proposals for their acquisition. Lead in the development of all health and nutrition concept papers through the RAM unit

Partnerships, Networking and Organizational learning:

  • Network with other NGO, Universities and Government representatives to broaden public understanding and visibility of WVGhana high quality work and capacity while seeking to learn from information available and to share approaches with other NGO staff and donor representatives.
  • Ensure that WVG is represented in all key Health forums including health coalitions, alliances and CSO bodies the office is already actively involved

Advocacy:

  • Facilitate local and national level advocacy to ensure achievement of the WVG Health strategic objectives in collaboration with the Advocacy Lead.

Programme Management:

  • Overall responsibility for the design/update and the implementation of Health, Nutrition Technical Program and ensuring that activities are delivered on time, on budget and in compliance with standards
  • Support the field team in the development of regular revisions to, and in compliance with, community agreements for implementation of the Health projects
  • Ensure that projects/programs adhere to WV partnership, MOH, GHS and funding agencies reporting requirements.
  • Support Health and Nutrition Project Officers, Health Grants Project Managers, Cluster program managers in annual project planning and ensuring that interventions are addressing maternal and child health needs, towards improving child well-being.
Educational Background: 
Masters Degree in Community/Public Health or related field with a strong health background
Skills/Experience: 

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Technical Training qualifications required: Public Health
  • Experience: 5 to 10 years experience with health programs in a comparable organization with field based experience will be an added advantage
  • Other: Medical degree is an added advantage.

  • Experience in project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and report writing
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivating. Must have an interest in health and well-being

  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload
  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
  • Attend and participate/lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based with travel to the field
  • Travel: 10 -30% Domestic/international travel is required.
  • On call: 10%
