The Development and Grants Specialist shall uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature. Further a commitment to the YMCA Mission, Philosophy, and Character Development Values is essential.

Along with having a strong passion for the mission of the YMCA and Safe Place Services, the ideal candidate will be: 1) someone with previous experience and skill in researching, writing, securing, and managing large public grants and other public funding sources; 2) someone with previous experience and skill in fund raising and development and/or; 3) someone with previous experience and skill in administrative executive assistance.   

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Responsible for a comprehensive range of activities required to successfully execute a Government and Public Funding procurement strategy for the YMCA of Greater Louisville and YMCA Safe Place Services.
  • Research and analyze community trends and needs to effectively determine current and future scope of government grant and public funding opportunities in support of the YMCA mission.  
  • Provide fiscal oversight and management to all sources of Public Funding.
  • Complete all fiscal reporting requirements, as described by each funding partner in a timely and effective manner.
  • Execute individual stewardship and cultivation plans for each public funding partner.
  • Provide oversight and tracking of all program statistics and data relevant to quality assurance, program logic models, and grant reporting.
  • Provide support and assistance to other fund raising and development activities as assigned by the Executive Director.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with grant research techniques.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience with grant writing, with a strong preference to any past experience with government grant writing
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with grant research techniques.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience with grant writing, with a strong preference to any past experience with government grant writing
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, multi-task and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Able to monitor and meet income goals; demonstrate sound fiscal management.
  • Ability to be a strategic thinker, self-starter, organized, and a highly effective communicator are critical attributes
  • Experience with a variety of computer-based information systems required.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Traditional work day, but with the flexibility to incorporate some evening and weekend development activities, events, or meetings.
  • Some off-site work (as needed) to make face to face contacts with prospects or donors will help ensure full implementation of the overall fund raising strategy.
  • Occasional travel may be required
Compensation/Benefits: 

SALARY: $40,000+ Based on experience
