YMCA Safe Place Services seeks a Director of Development to help build and advance the mission of the YMCA and Safe Place Services in our community. The ideal candidate is a passionate philanthropic leader with a record for building strong relationships between donors and important causes.

The Director of Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and directing a strategic funding plan to support the mission of the YMCA Greater Louisville and Safe Place Services. The Director of Development will work in partnership with the Executive Director, Staff Development Team, Board of Directors, and Financial Development Committee to maximize the impact YMCA Safe Place programs have in the community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Lead and advance a development strategy for YMCA Safe Place Services.
  • With the Executive Director, cultivate and develop a portfolio of 75+ major individual donors and corporations.
  • Continue to build and expand Safe Places’ YMCA Safe Place Services’ Annual Campaign
  • Assist the Executive Director, YMCA Senior Leadership, and the Safe Place Board of Directors in reaching annual monetary goals and milestones.
  • Utilize current annual funding raising plans to ensure all annual development activities are aligned and coordinated.
  • Responsibilities-Annual Giving Campaign: Goal of $400,000.
  • Responsibilities-Special Event: Goal of $100,000
  • Event Management: As part of the overall strategy, cultivate key partnerships with individuals and companies to successfully lead two major fundraising events annually – the Turf Classic at Churchill Downs and the Together 4 Teens Breakfast. Some previous experience in event implementation preferred.
  • Through clear and passionate communication of mission impact, work with Executive Director, board volunteers, and staff leadership to build connections to new donors, and strengthen, deepen, and cultivate relationships with current donors.
  • Oversee and manage development activities through the use of Raiser’s Edge NXT, ensuring donations are accurately and appropriately documented, tracked, and monitored.
  • Passionately represent YMCA Safe Place Services, with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to the philanthropic community and all funding constituencies.
  • Execute other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director
    • Traditional work day, but with the flexibility to incorporate some evening and weekend development activities, events, or meetings.
    • Off-site work (as needed) to make face to face contacts with prospects or donors will help ensure full implementation of the overall fundraising strategy.
    • Occasional travel may be required
Educational Background: 
Relevant Bachelor’s Degree required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, w/ particular focus on annual giving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities required
  • Past experience with donor software such as Raiser’s Edge NXT or equivalent.
  • Able to coordinate and connect key branch communications and marketing into the overall fundraising strategy at both the Safe Place branch level and Association-wide.
  • Some experience with social media or on-line fundraising strategies preferred.
  • Past experience in sales, public relations, or marketing beneficial.
  • Entrepreneurial and ethical, highly motivated, and mission oriented
  • Abilities to be a strategic thinker, self-starter, organized, and a highly effective communicator are critical attributes
  • Experience with computer and web-based data systems – Microsoft Excel and Access especially
  • Demonstrate sound fiscal management
Compensation/Benefits: 

SALARY RANGE: $50,000+
