Human Resources Representative/Project Coordinator

The HR Representative is responsible for the coordination of HR programs and services for the Western States of the American Heart Association with a focus on implementing strategies to drive employee engagement from onboarding to continued professional development aligned with organizational goals and objectives. Provides guidance and support to business partners to build and sustain the level of engagement and performance needed.

The location of the position is flexible within the Western States region.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In support of the effective onboarding, training and retention of newly hired and promoted staff:
  • Manage the onboarding experience with the new hire, manager, and other partners
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the onboarding experience
  • Ensure new staff and hiring managers receive personalized onboarding plans and the tools they need when upon hire.
  • Have regular touch points with new staff, especially in the first year to help set staff up for success.
  • Lead staff in developing the resources and coordination for New Staff Orientation
  • Facilitate New Staff Orientation, leveraging available technology and adult learning techniques for optimal learning
  • Build/leverage/communicate tools and resources to support ability to accelerate into independent performance
  • Working with internal partners across field offices, coordinates the internship program with colleges/universities and the placement, orientation and networking of student interns to support a positive learning experience and potential talent development.
  • Coordinates professional development initiatives including mentorship, employee resource group participation and career pathing in one-to-one, small group and general audience formats.
  • Manages analysis, reporting and evaluation of employee feedback surveys; coordinates action planning and follows-through on plans for continuous improvement.
  • Organizes and coordinates staff training initiatives in coordination with Heart U and other subject matter experts. Includes development and communication of training materials based on identified objectives, managing the participant experience and evaluating and monitoring training effectiveness. Provides recommendations for continuous improvement in ongoing programs.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements initiatives to further diversify the affiliate's staff and volunteer base through community outreach, partnerships with universities/colleges and staff involvement and competency development.
  • In coordination with Talent Attraction, participates in recruitment efforts for assigned positions, temporary/contingent staff and interns in compliance with policies, legal requirements and diversity and inclusion goals.
  • In addition to those described above, coordinates HR projects, initiatives and tasks as needed for optimal service delivery.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation. Ensures compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
Skills/Experience: 

Progressive professional experience and education that includes 3 years or more of demonstrated ability with:

  • Project management experience, preferably with programs designed to promote employee engagement, internal communications and adult learning
  • Proven ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects
  • Affinity for and ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with high attention to detail
  • Highly effective oral, written, presentation and influencing skills
  • Agile team player with ability to collaborate with and build relationships across departments.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience designing and producing virtual events focused on creating meaningful experiences for participants; proficiency with AdobeConnect preferred
  • Experience designing content for presentations, videos and communication materials to capture the attention of diverse audiences
  • Knowledge of HR strategies and employment laws and regulations
