The External Affairs Coordinator plays a key role in programs in Southern California to affect public policy to further The Nature Conservancy’s mission. The External Affairs Coordinator serves as liaison and informational contact between the organization, private groups, business, state and/or local agencies.
The External Affairs Coordinator provides research and policy analysis in support of The Nature Conservancy’s policy priorities and tracks policies and decisions that directly affect conservation goals. S/he builds and facilitates internal networks, public networks, coordinating meetings, agendas, and presentations. They assist in influencing the outcome of policy initiatives in Southern California. They develop strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and industry to advance the organization’s conservation agenda.
- Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
- Works within scope of program’s strategic goals.
- Provides research and policy analysis in support of legislative, corporate and/or policy priorities.
- Provides assistance with preparation of program materials including presentations, memos, and other communications.
- Provides assistance with social media and public outreach to influence public policy outcomes in Southern California..
- Schedules outreach meetings with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and/or industry.
- Work independently, working with supervisor as needed.
- Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure.
- Experience with legislative, planning, policy or corporate initiatives at two or more of the following levels: country, state, regional or local.
- Experience presenting to and communicating with government or corporate staff and/or program leadership.
- Experience working with partners/government agencies and the corporate sector.
- Spanish language proficiency required.
