Just Detention International (JDI) is seeking a Development Director to help grow its fundraising capacity and increase our base of loyal individual donors. JDI is a health and human rights organization that seeks to end sexual abuse in all forms of detention. The Development Director will join JDI’s development and communications teams and report to the Deputy Executive Director.
Responsibilities
- Working with the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director, create and implement JDI’s annual development plan
- Manage JDI’s donor cultivation and donor acknowledgements
- Lead events planning and coordination for 2-3 small major donor events per year
- Oversee production and dissemination of fundraising materials, such as donor updates, solicitations, and other donor publications
- Manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of giving campaigns aimed at donors at all levels, including monthly giving, bequest giving, and major giving
- Working with the Deputy Executive Director, participate in foundation and government grants cultivation, including by drafting and editing foundation and government proposals and progress reports, and researching potential new funders
- As part of the communications team, working with the Communications Director, participate in JDI’s multi-media communications campaigns, strategizing around messaging and content to advance JDI’s mission and appeal to donors
- Work with the Deputy Executive Director to explore and implement equity-based development and philanthropy strategies
- Oversee JDI’s donor and grants databases, supervising data entry and ensuring content is up-to-date
- Serve as a representative for the organization at meetings and other events, as assigned
- Participate in team, department, and organization-wide meetings
Qualifications:
- Exceptional writing skills
- Minimum five years of relevant professional experience, preferably as a development professional at a nonprofit social justice or human rights organization
- BA or equivalent relevant experience
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Excellent computer skills and comfort with MS Office
- Passionate commitment to protecting the human rights of all people, advancing racial and gender equity, and dismantling systems of oppression
- Comfort speaking with donors about sexual violence and other sensitive issues; ability to work compassionately with trauma survivors
The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 annually, commensurate with experience. JDI’s generous benefits include: employer paid health, dental, vision, and life insurance; employer contribution to 403(b) retirement plan, equivalent to 7 percent of employee’s salary (begins at six months of employment); 23 days of paid vacation and 11 paid holidays per year; 12 paid sick days per year; access to JDI’s contractual therapist for confidential support as needed; and a paid sabbatical program for employees after 10 years of employment.
