We currently have an excellent job opportunity for a Community Impact Director in Los Angeles. Reporting to the Senior Director, Community Impact and as a member of a highly collaborative team, this position will drive the health impact goals focused on the Asian American/Pacific Island (AAPI) communities in Los Angeles County, and specifically the San Gabriel Valley, with an emphasis on hypertension, cholesterol and related health issues
Areas of Responsibility:
- Build a network of meaningful volunteer and partner relationships to create a sustainable culture of health within the AAPI vulnerable community. Proactively lead and identify, recruit, orient and retains volunteers consisting of senior level executives and community leaders to drive the overall community action plan.
- With the Senior Director, develop an overall community action plan that includes engagement and positioning strategies, driving to organizational goals around healthy behavior, which includes blood pressure and cholesterol management, collective impact strategies, and other health impact initiatives. Plan should include an engagement plan for key volunteers and strategic alliances to drive sustainability.
- Serve as a catalyst and convener with collective impact coalitions and demonstrate progress through reach of policy, system and environment interventions.
- Drive direct health impact via targeted strategic community, medial and corporate relationships.
- Collaborate with advocacy efforts to determine the local public policy focus and strategy to address significant population reach that will drive to the reduction of health disparities in the AAPI audience.
- Successfully build and implement a cross-functional hypertension and cholesterol control strategy (high blood pressure management, cholesterol and healthy behavior initiatives) in the AAPI market with strong integration of Health Strategies and Development.
- Articulate the CVD health problem in and across communities and what AHA is doing to address the problem within the community. Assists with educating all staff in the market with the ability to talk about what the AHA is doing to reach diverse audiences within said community.
- Work collaboratively with development staff partners and volunteers to identify, cultivate and secure prospective sponsors for relevant campaigns, driving to specific sponsorship goal with development team. Support the achievement of the unrestricted field campaign through health asset sponsorships/activations and other means.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Skills/Experience:
- 2-5 years progressive experience in public health, community health or related health care experience
- Bi-lingual English with either Chinese, Korean or Taiwanese
- Proven ability to recruit, mobilize and manage volunteers, including C-Suite level, to achieve established goals
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, time management and communication (oral and written) skills
- Demonstrated ability to drive towards results
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly in assigned territory and work nights and weekends as needed
Some of the preferred skills include:
- Master’s Degree in Public Health
- Knowledge of the AHA’s mission and programs
- Demonstrated success in securing funding for programs through foundations, major gifts and/or sponsorship
- Self-starter who works well in a team environment
