The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent job opportunity in our Los Angeles County Division, based in Downtown LA, for a SENIOR DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR focused on our Heart Walk campaign. In this management position you will be a player/coach in the planning, management and implementation of one of the largest fundraising campaigns in the county. You will recruit, train and manage C-level volunteers, supervise and coach a dedicated staff team, and lead the accountability for a shared income goal of $2.4M.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Shares in the responsibility for the overall accountability for the Los Angeles Heart Walk Campaign, generated through a combination of high level corporate cash sponsorship and team engagement. Working directly for the Vice President of Development, and working in collaboration with a high performing team including another Senior Director and Director level staff, plans, manages, and executes the campaign according to well-established best practices.
  • Directly supervises and coaches individual staff members
  • Recruits, trains and manages an executive leadership team of C-level volunteers to play an active role in identifying and securing corporate sponsorship and involvement.
  • As a player coach, cultivates and grows current top corporate partners and identifies and recruits new business for both sponsorship and teams.
  • Meets regularly (10+ FTF weekly meetings) with sponsors, donors and volunteers - both new and potential
  • Oversees and manages he coordination of the of the Heart Walk event in accordance with expense and event guidelines. Ensures effective and efficient method for tracking event volunteer recruitment and event results.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years successful experience in fundraising, sales or marketing
  • Ability to recruit, train, and manage leadership volunteers to achieve goals
  • Experience in leading a team to success
  • Ability to thrive in a results-driven and collaborative environment with highly effective organization, multi-tasking, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Experience with the American Heart Association or similar non-profit experience in a fundraising position
  • Experience in closing high level corporate sponsorship
  • Experience working with individual giving
  • Comfortable with B2B networking and outreach, including cold calls
