Job Title: High School and College Math and Science Tutor
Department: Bridge to the Future (BTF)
Reports to: Program Director of Teen and Young Adult Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Hours: 20 hours per week
Hourly Rate: 14.00 per hour
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Program Director of Teen and Young Adult Services, the Tutor holds the primary responsibility of working one-on-one and in small groups (3-4) with members in areas of Math and Science. The Tutor will work closely with the High School Pathways Coordinator and other BTF tutor(s) to ensure that high school members are on track to graduate and have the option of going to college. To meet this end, the Tutor will identify members’ academic needs and work closely with them to develop or maintain essential academic skills. The Tutor will provide reports to the High School Pathways Coordinator and the Program Director of Teen and Young Adult Services on the overall progress and success of our members.
Under the direction of the Program Director of Teen and Young Adult Services, the Tutor will meet the following requirements and perform the following duties personally and through interns/volunteers:
- Develop, prepare and implement engaging one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for teen members and entry-level college students
- Communicate with staff instructors and High School Pathways Coordinator to identify and best meet the needs of each member, assisting with the tracking of members’ academic process
- Under the direction of the Higher Education Coordinator, facilitate and/or assist with Summer Intensive
- Facilitate and/or assist with SAT/ACT Prep course recruitment and planning
- Assist students in identifying school resources to ensure academic and personal success
- Assist students in developing individual academic plans and transition plans to college
- Assist BTF staff in planning and coordination of special events
- Complete administrative duties, such as providing monthly and/or quarterly reports, in a timely manner
- Address student behavior appropriately and following the approach adopted by the agency
- Complying with agency’s legal mandate to report suspicions of abuse
- Assist with the supervision of members during program hours
- Attend all required program meetings and professional development
- Serve as a mentor and role model for members
- Other duties may be assigned
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Two years experience working with teen and young adult population
- Two years working in an office environment
14.00/hour + full benefits package
