The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a ASSOCIATE DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR with our Heart Ball based in Los Angeles, California. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the planning, execution and evaluation of assigned events in support of overall achievement of division and affiliate goals. This position is an active member of the Los Angeles Heart & Stroke Ball team and carries an individual fund raising goal of $250,000 net for fiscal year 2017-2018.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages and coordinates all sponsor activation opportunities; both night-of-event branding opportunities at the gala, as well as year-around community-driven activation opportunities (i.e. sponsors supporting Teaching Gardens, Kids Cook With Heart, CPR in Schools, etc.).
  • Recruits and manages volunteer leadership committees related to auction and event planning/logistics. Owns night-of-event auction goal of $100,000+ (through both live & silent auction) and invents new auction-themed fundraising opportunities to implement year-around.
  • Responsible for the logistical planning and implementation of the Heart & Stroke Ball and accompanying year-around cultivation events, as needed, in compliance with established timelines, policies, practices and legal requirements.
  • Develops and executes year-around donor cultivation and acquisition calendar, in collaboration with reporting manager and Major Gifts team members. Primary focus on stewarding and renewing $1,000-$5,000+ donors. Plans, organizes, and implements donor cultivation events in private homes.
  • Assists with selling sponsorship opportunities, focusing on cultivating and renewing $10,000+ table sponsors for the Heart Ball. Minimal data management and entry needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2+ years of working experience in nonprofits, events, and/or public/community health setting; experience in fundraising and/or sales strongly encouraged.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Highly effective written, verbal and group presentation communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, data base management and spreadsheet software using MS Word, Excel, Access, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with staff, volunteers and public, both individually and in groups.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to plan work, organize time, and maintain efficient workflow.
  • Ability to respond to changing priorities and demands of the department staff.
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and carry them through to completion.
  • Ability to travel within assigned region, including occasional overnight travel.
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired through at least two years of progressively related experience and specialized education, or by any equivalent combination of education and experience.
