This role requires a person with strong background in contract, commercial, charity or trust law. Experience in leading negotiations with third parties is essential. Needs to have effective interpersonal skills as will need to lead key elements of operational and cultural change. The role will work with colleagues managing our overseas programmes - a dynamic and interesting environment.
With a focus on contract and commercial law, the following areas of responsibility exist:
Advising and trouble-shooting
- Act as in-team proactive authority and adviser on contract negotiation and management and draw upon external experts, where appropriate. Build effective relationships with experts from external legal bodies and peer organisations to enhance and simplify the work of WVUK
- Provide input into assurance work such as due diligence.
- Act as point of escalation on high risk or complex matters
Leading negotiations
- Lead negotiations with peer NGOs, commercial suppliers/contractors, donors and National Offices in complex scenarios, particularly relating to the development and delivery of charitable programmes.
- Represent WVUK in engagement with World Vision International (WVI) on relevant legal issues.
Portfolio risk management
- Sample and review high risk work performed by colleagues within P&P at critical moments such as donor deadlines.
- Advise the Policy and Programmes leadership and management teams on risk management issues across the portfolio
Improving operational effectiveness and efficiency
- Apply judgement and initiative in the design, simplification and implementation of policies, processes, templates and guidance documents balancing assurance with agility.
- Negotiate with the key stakeholders (up to Director level) on PFC team’s processes and compliance with policies incl. behaviours and timeframes.
Learning, training and coaching
- Identify knowledge, skill and capability gaps within the team and wider department. Develop and deliver training and on-the-job coaching to colleagues.
- Build negotiation skill and expertise within the wider team
- Model and encourage learning and professional development.
As a senior member of the team, the following responsibilities exist:
- Play a leadership role in the PFC team to inspire, motivate and provide prioritisation, escalating issues to the Head of Programme Finance & Compliance where appropriate.
- Cover for Head of Programme Finance and Compliance when necessary.
- Reflect the organisation's Christian values in day to day work.
Develop a deep understanding of the purpose of the business and its mission.
