Develop your skills while working for the largest social mission organization in the country.  As a student Intern with the Nebraska State Office of AARP, you will have the opportunity to see the real world of community outreach, empowering volunteers to be leaders and working collectively as a team to advance the mission of AARP. This is a paid internship with a target start date of May, 2019 and end date of 12/31/19.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of issues; gather information and research topics; practice developing presentations and talking points;
  • Assist in volunteer coordination and will have a major role in assigning and coordinating work with volunteers. He/she will be heavily engaged with volunteers involved at AARP events and interacting with members and public at public forums;
  • Interact with most frequently: all volunteers across Nebraska and potential sites for speaking engagements and have some interaction with public/members that may be seeking information on AARP;
  • Perform tasks that are explained in advance with an opportunity for hands on instruction when needed;
  • Work on assorted projects that are scheduled throughout the year with an opportunity for the intern to experience many different aspects of work ranging from meetings, listening sessions, public events, varied communication with volunteers/members, and event preparation;

Educational Background: 
Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; be in good academic standing; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors.
Skills/Experience: 
  • AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. 
  • This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
