Senior Research Associate II – Electrophysiology

Works independently to design, perform, analyze and present experiments to assess function of CFTR in human primary cells and cell lines suitable for ion transport assays (FRTs etc.). Proficient in the use of Ussing chamber systems. Performs standard non-electrophysiological lab techniques such as Western blots, tissue fixation/immunostaining etc. as required. Highly proficient in primary cell tissue culture. Training/coaching of inexperienced staff members and assists the cell/tissue culture manager in duties.  Key contact for routine and special related lab activities.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Culture cells in support of internal/external projects.
  • Independently plan, set-up and perform experiments to high quality, follow experimental plans as discussed with group leader.
  • Analyze data, generate reports and enter experimental data in electronic lab notebook in a timely manner.
  • Maintain cell cultures and assist group members as needed. May include ‘after hours’ and weekend work, as needed.
  • Prepare and present data at internal lab meetings.
  • Follow, write and update SOP’s as required.
  • Collaborate with external academic, industry peers and vendors.
  • Attend CF conferences and CFF meetings when required.
Educational Background: 
B.S. in biological sciences
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience. 2+ years in biotech or pharmaceutical industry is desirable.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) necessary in order to summarize and communicate results.
  • Highly organized, capable of prioritization and performance of multiple tasks. Ensure timely and accurate electronic lab notebook and reports.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Experience with MS Office and data analysis/statistical packages desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Commute to lab every workday - Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Occasional weekend work in the lab to maintain tissue culture workflow.
  • Annual/Biannual travel to scientific or technology-focused meetings as necessary.
  • Use of computer required.
  • Sitting, bending, reaching, and walking.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (not to exceed 50 lbs.) for set-up of lab equipment.
